Barbie fans upset iconic song was missing from trailer

She's a Barbie girl in a Barbie world, for crying out loud!

It's been days and people still can't stop talking about *that* iconic Barbie movie trailer - though can you really blame them?

But amid all of the excitement and action, there are some fans who are a little upset that the trailer didn't include a certain Barbie-themed pop song.

Warner Bros. dropped the trailer earlier this week as a little Easter treat, giving fans their first full look at Margot Robbie's Barbie, Ryan Gosling's Ken, and a whole host of other Barbie Land characters.

We also got our first glimpse at what the Barbie movie plot might entail, as Barbie sets out on an adventure to the 'real world' - with a loved-up Ken in-tow.

While the trailer fits perfectly with the Beach Boys soundtrack behind it, some fans did wonder why a certain, more Barbie-centric song didn't make the cut.

It's been almost 26 years since Danish-Norwegian band Aqua released their hit dance song 'Barbie Girl', and it still holds up as a cult classic.

In fact, it's pretty much the go-to song that comes to mind at the mere mention of the word 'Barbie.'

And now that the tune is missing from the film's first full-length trailer, fans are starting to wonder if it'll appear at all.

"The most disappointing thing to me about the Barbie movie is how in the trailer they went 'hi barbie', 'hi ken' and then 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua did NOT start playing," tweeted one frustrated fan.

A second complained: "They still haven’t used Aqua’s 'Barbie Girl' in the trailer? The song better be in the movie."

A third Twitter user added: "Just saw the trailer for the new Barbie movie, and it looks awesome! The only thing that would make it better is if the song 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua somehow found its way into the movie soundtrack."

And a fourth disappointed viewer noted: "I didn't hear 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua in either #Barbie movie trailer. Seems like an obvious missed opportunity."

One fan even felt so strongly about the song's absence that they decided to re-edit the trailer themselves to incorporate 'Barbie Girl' into the soundtrack, 'the way it should have always been.'

Now that's dedication.

Even though the song does, admittedly, sound perfect in the trailer, as expected, the chances of 'Barbie Girl' showing face in the Barbie movie are actually quite slim.

You see, Mattel, the creators of Barbie, aren't exactly big fans of the song.

Back in September 1997, five months after 'Barbie Girl' was first released, Mattel filed a suit against Aqua's record label for violating the Barbie trademark and copyright.

Eventually, it was ruled that the song 'Barbie Girl' would be protected as a parody, so all's well that ends well for the Aqua gang - but that probably means 'Barbie Girl' isn't making its move debut any time soon.
