AI turns Shrek into horror from the 80s and it’s terrifying

The gingerbread man is particularly nightmare inducing

Someone has used AI to turn Shrek into an 80s-style dark fantasy horror movie and it’s actually really creepy.

With artificial intelligence advancing at a rapid rate, some folks have put it to good use ruining childhoods by turning beloved family favorites into something a lot more sinister looking. You can see the dark version of Shrek here:

See. Pretty unnerving, right? I think the gingerbread man is going to haunt my nightmares for a while.

The clip was created by YouTuber AVendettaForYou, who regularly shares reimagined - and at times terrifying - versions of much loved characters such as Shrek and Bear in the Big Blue House.

The clip, which has been viewed more than 350,000 times, has caused a bit of a stir with Shrek fans.

Commenting on the video, one said: “This is amazing. I would love to watch something like this.”

Another wrote: “The gingerbread man perfectly embodies the creepiness of '80s puppetry or claymation.”

A third said: “The way I could definitely see this as an 80s movie is insane.”

Someone else joked: “This is the kind of movie that would turn up in those ‘Childhood Trauma’ videos.”

“Anyone else get a weird chilling eerie vibe from these types of videos?” another commenter asked. “It's impossible to explain it it just feels scary, it really triggers my stress hormones and idk why.”

While a fifth person wrote: “Gingerbread man would go on to traumatise countless kids through his nightmarish appearance and a mandatory grotesque death scene."

This is going to haunt my nightmares for a while.

And if Shrek as a 1980s fantasy flick isn’t quite enough nightmare fuel for you, then may I interest you in a live-action sitcom version of SpongeBob SquarePants, brought to you by AI, of course.

YouTuber JolyTool gave 80s sitcom humanized makeovers to SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Plankton and Sandy - and the results were… erm, weird.

However, although the aesthetic gives me the heebie-jeebies, plenty of people were quick to heap praise on how good it looked.

The results are very disturbing.

One person commented: "Every one of these looks spot on! Also, Squidward looks like Bill Nighy."

While another wrote: "I like how the AI tried to put Mr. Crabs face on the dollar, implying that it was an episode of the show that never existed."

A third added: "This is like jazz to me. Extremely abstract and niche but super creative."

Someone else said: "Seeing Plankton sitting there with his wife is disturbing in this version."
