A priest has opened up about his experiences with exorcisms, revealing the ‘most common’ type of possession and the religious ritual that usually grants Christians protection from demons.
If you’ve ever watched The Conjuring, Scary Movie 2, or even Beetlejuice, then you will be somewhat familiar with what an exorcism is.
If not, then New Advent, the Catholic Encyclopaedia exorcism, described exorcism as the act of driving out, or warding off, demons or evil spirits, from persons, places, or things.
But how does a real-life exorcism compare to the kind we're used to seeing in horror movies?

Reverend Chris Lee, an Anglican priest-in-charge at St. Saviour's Church in Wendell Park, West London, told LADbible Stories he's been ‘involved with numerous’ exorcisms.

“I have seen exorcism. I’ve seen demons be cast out of people and heard them speak, and it is real,” he stated.
The clergyman admitted the ‘most powerful’ demon expulsion took place during a pilgrimage in Africa.
Before delving into his first-hand experience, Rev. Lee explained that as a Christian, he believed in the spiritual realm.
“I believe that there are angels and I believe that there are demons,” he began.
He reasoned that the spiritual realm was there to be ‘tapped into’ and that religious people like himself have a calling, due to their work with the Holy Spirit.
Some people however can use tarot cards and Ouija boards to connect with the non-physical dimension - practices the church believes are ‘dangerous’, he explained.

While in Africa, the religious man ‘got called to a girl’ who was ‘coming off the ground’ and speaking in ‘different male voices’.
“We had to pray for her in that time and see her delivered of the demon that was in her.
“Full possession of someone is very rare and it doesn’t happen very often. It’s a very rare occurrence.”
According to the expert, the more ‘common’ form of possession is oppression, described as ‘someone who’s feeling oppressed by something evil’.
“Imagine walking through a dirty puddle and you get splashed by the puddle and there’s stuff that remains and so there is a spiritual relevance to praying, blessing, and cleansing over someone.”
Rev. Lee concluded by saying if you had been baptised, or if your child had been baptised, then they had already experienced a form of exorcism.
“Within the baptism rite is an exorcism,” he revealed. “You pray over the child or the person that they be ‘delivered from darkness’.”
To do this, a priest will lay his hands on the head of a person or child and say the words.
“That is an exorcism rite built into baptism,” he continued. “So that happens all the time.
“It is not something that I think you should worry about and the church has specialists and exorcists in every diocese.”
