One woman has been invited to a couples therapy session for a bizarre first date.

The woman, who goes by the handle @luna_leia_, took to social media to share the latest and slightly alternative update on her dating life.

After posting the tongue-in-cheek first date idea to her Hinge profile - she was beyond stunned after a potential suitor actually followed her up on it.

Luna caught the attention of the internet with the insane Hinge dating story.

Now, if you're unfamiliar with how the dating app Hinge works, the app offers singletons an array of different prompts for them to showcase their personality in the best way possible.

One prompt that Luna had on her profile was: "Together we could..." which she answered with the slightly chaotic but nonetheless original scenario: "Go to couples therapy and see how long it takes the therapist to realize we don’t know each other."

The idea, which was inspired by someone else online, may seem fairly far-fetched but, for one person - it was the perfect opportunity to show some initiative.

Luna later received a notification on her Hinge app that someone had actually taken the prompt seriously and scheduled a one-hour, in-person therapy session, due to take place a couple of weeks later.

And it clearly wasn't a cheap gimmick either, as it set the prospective dater back a staggering $170.

The Hinge prompt that started it all.

Luna shared the whole thing to X - formerly Twitter - including screenshots of the Hinge prompt, alongside the message she'd received from her Hinge date's booking confirmation.

Her date also said: "For the record, your last name is Smith, you were born April 1, 1999, and we’ve been together for 2 years now. See you there," coupled with a winky face emoji.

Smooth.

She captioned the post: "One of my Hinge matches actually booked us a therapy session. Will be back with an update on how it goes."

The tweet has since gone viral after clocking up more than a staggering 11.9 million views with an avalanche of comments from people eager to share their reactions.

Some people weren't totally on board with the prank over concerns it would be wasting the therapist's time.

"Please don't do this. Therapists are overbooked and underpaid to be the subject of practical jokes, and every appointment this sort of thing takes up is less time that people that need therapy have." one person said.

A second tweeted: "How inconsiderate of therapists are you to do something like this? Do you have any idea how much work goes into an intake and establishing new clients?"

"Who has the money to pay for that so causally," pointed out a third.

Others, however, found the whole thing beyond hilarious.

The internet can't wait for the latest update on the Hinge saga which is set to come on Sunday.

"As a marriage and family therapist I find this so f**king funny," revealed one Twitter user. "I need to know how this plays out… lmfao I really hope your therapist has a good sense of humor…"

"Not people mad at you for a joke prompt someone else took seriously," penned a second.

A third wrote: "Omg that’s amazing."

And, understandably, the majority of people couldn't wait for the next update in the saga, with one Twitter user declaring: "I’ve never needed an update more!"

"Lmfaooo I'm so excited to see how this turns out," commented a second.

A final Twitter user joked: "Please update until you’re married!"

Well, it seems we won't have to wait too much longer now for an update, considering the date slash therapy session is scheduled to take place this Sunday (24 September).
