Porn star Riley Reid explains why she stopped filming videos with male co-stars

Riley Reid got into the adult film industry in 2010 before taking things in a new direction

Adult film star Riley Reid explained why she stopped creating content with male co-stars after years in the industry.

Reid, whose real name is Ashley Mathews, got into the porn industry in 2010, and went on to win the award for Female Performer of the Year at the XBIZ Awards in 2014.

She was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 2021; the same year she was estimated to be making six figures a month through subscribers on OnlyFans.

However, Reid decided to make a change in her work when she stopped filming porn with men.

She explained her decision in an episode of Jordyn Jones' What They Don't Tell You podcast, where Reid opened up about her love life and balancing it with her career as a porn star.

When asked if she ever had any boyfriends, Reid explained: "Dating was really hard."

She noted that prospective partners would often have a 'persona' in mind for her, saying: "Especially as I grew a name for myself, it was hard to meet someone who [didn't] know who I was.

"And so," she continued, "there was always that, like, fandom. They met me first in their mind as Riley, so it was really hard to like reverse and teach them that I'm Ashley."

Her comments came after Reid previously shared on the Impaulsive podcast that one former boyfriend made her feel like a 'disgusting person' for her career.

"He made me feel like maybe I should quit and stuff," she said.

While Reid didn't give up altogether, she did move in a new direction with her decision to stop shooting 'boy-girl porn'.

"It was a choice I made on my own but I made that choice because I was lonely and I wanted love and affection and stuff," she said.

Reid went on to express belief that she was 'not going to be able to find' such things 'while performing', so she decided to rule out the scenes altogether.

"I've dated guys that were like 'Me or porn?' and I was like, 'porn never gave me this ultimatum, so I choose that'," she concluded.

The star is now married to her husband Pasha Petkuns, with who she shares a daughter, Emma.

Reid has described Petkuns as an 'amazing husband'.

"You’re so present in every moment with both of us and I am so happy to spend everyday with you," she said in an Instagram post.
