A woman on TikTok has sparked a debate after revealing her gym has a dress code that members must abide by if they are going to work out there.

When it comes to the gym, sometimes it can be just difficult enough to muster the strength to go. A lot of the time you will just throw on whatever and get stepping, so at the end of the day, at least you can say that you went.

However, how would you feel if your gym introduced a uniform policy for members?

Well, for TikTok user Caitlin Emiko, who currently lives in New York, this is an actual reality for the gym she attends, Greenwich Village Athletic, a squad training gym

Speaking on the social media platform, she outlined the thinking behind the move and showed off some of her new fave gym outfits.

“We are only allowed to wear black activewear at my gym and let me explain why,” she said at the start of the video.

While it might actually sound a bit ‘cultish’, the rule has been implemented to create an inclusive workout environment.

She continued: “There is a few reasons they do this and the first reason is to prevent comparison.

“If someone is wearing something and you are like ‘I don’t look that cool’ or ‘I can’t wear that’. It just eliminates all forms of comparison so you don’t know what any ones style is outside of the gym.

“Because everyone looks the same you basically have a uniform you can go to the gym in and not think that you need to worry about what you are wearing or like that.”

She then closed out the video by running through her favorite combos and outfits to wear to the gym.

Some people supported the idea, with one person commenting: “Wait that’s such a good idea."

Another said: " I just do this anyway helps me not think about what I have to wear as well and black is always flattering even if I don’t feel great still gets me in the gym.”

“I just do this anyway helps me not think about what I have to wear as well and black is always flattering even if I don’t feel great still gets me in the gym,” another social media user said.

However, some were more skeptical about the policy, with one commenting: “A dress code at the gym, that’s crazy.”
