Fisherman reels in giant goldfish-like carp that weighs the same as a 10-year-old

A giant goldfish that weighs more than a ten-year-old child is a warning for why you shouldn't dump your pets.

A giant goldfish-like carp weighing the same as a ten-year-old has been caught in caught in Champagne, France.

A British angler dragged the 67-pound behemoth out of BlueWater Lakes.

Twenty years ago, the carp fishery released the carp known as The Carrot, and it has now become one of the largest in the world.

The man who was lucky enough to find the fish was Andy Hackett, from Worcestershire, UK, who spent 25 minutes reeling the creature in.

At the time, the man from Kidderminster said that he knew that The Carrot was in there, but never thought he would actually catch it.

The fish is rather massive.

He posed for a few snaps with his catch, before releasing it safe and well back into the lake.

Because the carp has able to roam in open waters for so many years, she has grown to an astonishing size and an incredible weight to match.

For comparison, the average ten-year-old boy weighs between 53 and 109 pounds, while this whopper of a fish weighs in at 67 pounds.

Carp even heavier than that have been caught - with reports of catches weighing in at 112 lbs for a mirror carp in Hungary and even a whopping 232 lbs for a Siamese carp in southern Thailand.

Hackett, 42, said of his catch: "I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went off side to side and up and down with it. Then it came to the surface 30 or 40 yards out and I saw that it was orange.

"It was brilliant to catch it but it was also sheer luck."

Despite Carrot being an elusive fish, her goldfish-like bright orange hue made her easier to find.

Hackett told the BBC: "With normal fish, you struggle to see them if they're just under the surface, but The Carrot is obviously bright orange so you can't miss it.

"Just like a general big fish, they're heavy, they're slow, they plod around."

Fisher manager Jason Cowler added: "We put The Carrot in about 20 years ago as something different for the customers to fish for. Since then it has grown and grown but it doesn't often come out. She is very elusive.

"She is in excellent health and condition. Congratulations to Andy on a great catch."

If you fancy popping over to France and trying to reel in Carrot for yourself, then I have some disappointing news for you: the waiting list to join the fishery is at least five years.
