Getting older can leave people feeling a range of emotions and a bunch of social media users have become reflective about what this has meant for them.

Without getting too dark... most people would happily die of old age rather than having their life cut short under tragic circumstances.

But with that said, getting older comes with some pros and cons.

When asked this on a Reddit thread, social media users couldn’t help but share their own experiences with getting on in years.

Some have had better experiences than others, but for those fearing another birthday, there is plenty to look forward, and some things to try and avoid.

Speaking about some of the best things about getting older, users highlighted everything from the simple to heartwarming.

One user commented: “Actually having money to do what I want. Of course, this is not true for everyone, but most people have significantly more financial stability as they get older. It's so nice not having money always be the deciding factor.”

Another added: “The best part of getting older is my life goals are a lot more fun. Goals when I was 20: Find a great job, make lots of money, find a great guy, and raise a family. Goals now that I'm in my late 50s: Drink cold beer. Laugh with family and friends. Dance to the blues."

With a third writing: "Getting to enjoy my kids (17, 19, 22) as adults."

And another commented: “Getting to decide what I do with my time. Video games after work? Sure, you just worked an 8-hour day. Go ahead and chill.

"Spend the weekend at a friend's house? Don't need to ask anyone; just go for it. Feel like cleaning the house? Maybe tomorrow."

Despite these highlights, getting older isn’t all roses as these users explained.

Explaining some of the worst things about getting older, one person wrote: "Your parents getting old and passing away."

Another commented: “I'm technically more fit in my 30s than in my 20s. But if I hurt myself, it takes 10x longer to heal.

"Hurt my knee? No running for two months. In my 20s, I would be fine after three shots of vodka and sleeping it off.”

With a third adding: "For me, generally, regret builds up. The 'could've, would've, should've' syndrome is strong in me."

And another said: "Loneliness. The world can easily just forget you."

Regardless of how you feel about getting older, probably best to try and live your best life while you can.
