Man who went 382 days without eating saw it have some unexpected effects on his body

Scottish man Angus Barbieri went 382 days without eating as he was fed up with being obese

A man who once went 382 days fasting between 1965 and 1966, saw an extraordinary change to his body.

For one year and 17 days, Angus Barbieri ate no food at all and lost a staggering 19.7 stone (125 kilograms).

He lived off a diet of just tea, coffee, soda water, and vitamins while living in his home in Scotland.

Angus was reportedly not happy with his weight and decided to take action, checking into the University Department of Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Dundee, weighing 32.5 stone (207kg).

He informed hospital staff that he was going to cut out food entirely and they were happy to monitor his progress.

The doctors were happy for Angus to fast for a while, but never expected that he would go that long due to his high dependence on food.

They then supplied him with some multivitamins that he could take regularly to compensate for the lack of food he would have in his diet.

Initially, it was difficult for Angus to keep to the plan and avoid food, but he quickly became more persistent which made his weight loss goal of 180 pounds seem easier.

He was regularly in hospital and often stayed overnight for doctors to manage his progress.

He would also receive regular blood tests and checkups, but surprisingly, all the results would come back fine as his body was still functioning normally.

As he got further into his fast, Angus started to introduce more into his diet to help with the lack of food.

He decided to drink more black tea, black coffee and sparkling water, but these were, of course, all calorie-free.

And for those of you who are curious, Angus would end up going to the toilet every 40-50 days as a result.

After even more time, his body started to adapt to the lack of food by burning its own fat stores for energy, which can be very dangerous once the fat runs out, as the body needs energy to properly function.

For the last eight months, Angus' glucose levels were consistently low, but surprisingly, he did not suffer any negative effects on his body as a result.

After 382 days of no eating, he finally called it quits after reaching his goal. However, this isn't something we'd recommend trying at home.
