Everwood and Hair star Treat Williams has tragically died in a motorcycle accident

The actor's family said they are 'beyond devastated' and added he was at the 'top of his game'.

Treat Williams has tragically died at the age of 71 in a motorcycle accident.

The star of Everwood and Hair was suffered fatal injuries in the incident in Dorset, Vermont.

His family has released a statement to Deadline that confirmed the sad news.

They said: "It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vermont after a fatal motorcycle accident.

"As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time.

"Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it.

"It is all so shocking right now, but please know that Treat was dearly and deeply loved and respected by his family and everyone who knew him.

"We are beyond devastated and ask that you respect our privacy as we deal with our grief.

"To all his fans, please know that Treat appreciated all of you and please continue to keep him in your hearts and prayers."

Treat starred as Dr. Andrew 'Andy' Brown in Everwood, which ran from 2002 to 2006.

Dorset fire chief Jacob Gribble explained to PEOPLE that Williams was involved in an accident with one other vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly didn't see Treat on his motorcycle.

He was airlifted to a hospital, however, despite doctors' best efforts, he couldn't be saved.
