What Is Robert Downey Jr’s Net Worth In 2022?

Robert Downey Jr is best known for his role as Iron Man in the MCU, but he has, of course, acted in a number of other iconic movies

Robert Downey Jr is up there with some of the most famous actors in the world. The 57-year-old is probably most known for his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but he has, of course, acted in a number of other iconic movies, such as Tropic Thunder and the 2009 Sherlock Holmes

The star's latest venture is his role in the 2023 biographical film Oppenheimer.

The movie tells the story of American theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer, who is often dubbed the ‘father of the atomic bomb’ for his role in the Manhattan Project, which saw the development of the first nuclear weapons during the second world war.

Downey Jr will be playing US naval officer Lewis Strauss, alongside Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Cilian Murphy who will take on the role of Robert Oppenheimer.

With all this said, many are curious to know how much Robert Downey Jr is worth after playing such illustrious roles throughout his career.

What Is Robert Downey Jr’s Net Worth In 2022?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Robert Downey Jr is worth a staggering $300 million, making him one of the highest-paid actors in history.

His role as Tony Stark in the MCU has of course been the most significant contributor to his enormous wealth, as he’s earned a total of $345.5 million playing Iron Man across the various Marvel movies.

However, it hasn’t always been this way for the iconic actor, as he was ‘only’ paid $500,000 for the first Iron Man, which is incomparable to his later salaries.

For example, he made $10 million for Iron Man 2, with back-end points, and a whopping $70 million for Iron Man 3

So, where did Downey Jr’s road to success begin? Born in New York in 1965, Robert grew up with acting around him, with both his parents being actors. His father Robert Downey Sr, was also a successful writer and director.

However, Downey Sr also has severe drug problems and reportedly gave his son marijuana when he was only six.

Downey Jr eventually dropped out of high school to pursue acting, managing to secure a role on the Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast in 1985. Throughout the late 80s and 90s, the actor appeared in a considerable number of successful films, most notably Chaplin in which he played the legendary film star Charlie Chaplin, and was nominated for the best actor Oscar.

However, in the late 1990s Downey Jr’s career took a turn for the worst, as he became severely addicted to drugs, getting himself arrested multiple times for drug possession.

It wasn’t until 2003 when his friend Mel Gibson managed to get him a role in The Singing Detective that Downey Jr managed to return to the screen.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that the star completely turned his life around, becoming one of the most successful actors in Hollywood.
