Nick Cannon Hits Out At Monogamy In New Interview

The rapper, comedian and TV host has spoken about monogamy before, describing it as a 'Eurocentric concept'.

Nick Cannon has doubled down on his feelings against monogamy, saying he doesn't think it's 'healthy'.

The rapper, comedian and TV host has spoken about monogamy before, describing it as a 'Eurocentric concept' when asked about his children with multiple women (eight children with five women to be exact, including Mariah Carey).

During a recent appearance on The Language of Love podcast with Dr. Laura Berman, Cannon spoke about the circumstances around the conception of his children and further dived into his opinions on monogamy.

The former America's Got Talent host explained how he considers someone to not be single when they're married. 'Married is not single. When you allow the government and paperwork to come in and say... this is a bond, this is a covenant, you're not single,' he said.

'You can still make covenants without getting the government involved, where two people say... we choose to be monogamous because we value this so much, we don't want anyone to be a part of this energy we have... and I don't feel like that's healthy. I don't think monogamy is healthy. I feel like that gets into the space of selfishness and ownership.'

This echoes his past comments on The Breakfast Club radio show, where he described monogamy as 'a Eurocentric concept when you think about the ideas of you're supposed to have this one person for the rest of your life... and really that's just to classify property when you think about it.'

'I don't have ownership of any of the mothers. We create families in the sense of we created a beautiful entity. It's about what exchange can we create together. I've never really subscribed to that mentality. I understand the institution of marriage if we go back to what that was about,' he added.

Cannon was also asked if the majority of his pregnancies were 'unplanned', to which he said, 'I'm never gonna say that... I'm going to take full responsibility. Any woman that I know that I have unprotected sex with, there's the potential to have a child.

'So I feel like if I have unprotected sex with anyone I know – because one, I value everything about me so much, if I've gotten to that point where I say, 'I can take off this condom,' I'm gonna say, 'She could be the mother of my child',' he continued.
