Snoop Dogg accused of making bizarre 'homophobic' comment about children’s movie

The rapper claimed he was 'scared to go to the movies' after an incident with his grandson

Snoop Dogg has been subject to allegations of homophobia after sharing a story of what happened when he took his grandson to see one of the movies in the beloved Toy Story universe.

When he's not furthering his career as a successful rapper, Snoop is busy juggling life as a family man with his multiple grandkids.

The 53-year-old first became a grandfather in 2015 when one of his sons, Corde Broadus, welcomed his own son, Zion. Since then, he's gone on to become grandad to Elleven, Cordoba, Kai, Sky, Chateau, Symphony Sol, and his most recent grandchild who his daughter Cori Broadus welcomed in February.

Snoop has embraced life as a grandad, revealing that Zion gave him the nickname 'Papa Snoop', and in a recent interview on the It's Giving podcast, he recalled spending time with his younger family members.

In the interview, Snoop recalled taking one of his grandsons to the movies to see the 2022 flick Lightyear, which serves as a prequel to Buzz Lightyear's story ahead of the Toy Story movies.

In the movie, one of the main characters has two moms who are in a same-sex relationship - a family unit that Snoop said caused his grandson to ask questions.

Snoop said: "They're putting it everywhere [...] They're like, 'She had a baby — with another woman'. Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, 'Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She's a woman!'"

Remembering his reaction to this question, Snoop continued: "Oh sh*t, I didn't come in for this sh*t. I just came to watch the goddamn movie."

The rapper went on to claim he was 'scared to go to the movies' as a result of the situation, saying: "Y'all throwing me in the middle of sh*t that I don't have an answer for."

"These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They're going to ask questions... I don't have the answer," he added.

After a clip of Snoop's comments was shared on Reddit, some users accused the rapper of being homophobic.

One user wrote: "It's only hard to explain if you're homophobic and trying to hide the existence of gay people to your children."

Another added the remark was 'blantantly [sic] homophobic of Snoop'.

A number of Reddit users also argued that explaining the concept of a same-sex relationship to children isn't as hard as Snoop depicted it to be.

"“That kid has two moms” 'Oh, okay' This is how I explain it to my small children. Super complicated," one wrote, as another added: "My mom's explanation of gay people was so mundane that I honestly can't even remember what it was. Gay people existed and that was that."

A third commented: "Some women fall in love with other women. Everyone is different. We accept ppl for who they are." What is so hard to answer about these questions? This is coming from a mom."

UNILAD has reached out to representatives for Snoop for comment.
