Josh Hutcherson sparks backlash after making 'shady' comment about Taylor Swift

Swifties were quick to defend the beloved singer as Hutcherson made his comments ahead of the release of her new series

The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson has felt the wrath of some Taylor Swift fans after sharing his honest stance on the singer ahead of the release of her new Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era.

Described as offering an 'unprecedented backstage pass' to Swift's record-breaking world tour, The End of an Era released on Disney+ today (December 12) to offer fans an insight into 'the development, impact, and inner workings' of her hugely successful Eras Tour shows.

The series comes just one day before Swift, who is newly engaged to footballer Travis Kelce, celebrates her 36th birthday, and while millions of Swifties will no doubt be rushing to hit play on the series, one person who probably won't be joining them is Hutcherson.

The actor found himself discussing his thoughts on Swift in an interview with his I Love LA co-star Jordan Firstman, conducted for i-D Magazine.

In a clip shared to the publication's TikTok, Firstman can be heard asking Hutcherson if he is a Swiftie, to which Hutcherson responds: "I'm not a Swiftie. Very much no. No shade, all respect, but definitely not."

Firstman argued there was a 'little tiny shade' in the comments, but noted: "She can handle a little bit of shade."

While Swift might be able to handle the idea that Hutcherson isn't her biggest fan, that hasn't stopped Swifties from coming to her defence in the comments section of the TikTok video.

In response to Hutcherson's comments, one person wrote: "just a “no” would be enough omg."

Another agreed that Hutcherson had maybe been a little too emphatic with his thoughts, saying: "the way he worded is simply rude. he couldve said like “not really” or “not yet” but the way he said it it seems like “im not and what about it”. idgaf about josh but i wont bear if anyone disrespect taylors music. [sic]"

Not everyone is in disagreement with the actor, though, with a few viewers actually suggesting his comments about Swift made them like him more.

"Just when I think he can’t get any more attractive," one person wrote on TikTok, while another added: "This is literally the first time I’ve heard a famous person say they’re not a swiftie (because I think they’re all scared of the swiftie wrath) and it’s refreshing ngl."

With Hutcherson's latest HBO series I Love LA now streaming, fans will be able to choose their side when it comes to supporting Swift or Hutcherson with their viewing habits this weekend.
