Smash Mouth defends Kim Kardashian after she was accused of 'disrespectful' post linked to Steve Harwell

The reality TV star was called 'tone deaf' after uploading the snap of her in a bikini.

In probably the most unlikely bit of news you'll hear today: Smash Mouth is defending Kim Kardashian.

The legendary band has been in mourning ever since the death of their former lead singer Steve Harwell.

The musician passed away just a few hours after his manager said he was on his death bed.

Harwell was transferred to hospice care after being diagnosed with liver disease and died at his home in Boise, Idaho, 'surrounded by family and friends'.

The singer is said to have passed away 'peacefully and comfortably'.

There have been plenty of tributes to the late singer since news of his death was revealed and some believe Kim Kardashian even paid her respects.

The reality TV star posted a photo of herself standing in front of a mirror in a gold bikini.

She captioned the upload with: "All that glitters is gold."

While that could just be referencing her swimsuit, it's also a phrase from Smash Mouth's iconic track 'All Star'.

In the chorus, the band sings: "Hey now, you're an all star/Get your game on, go play/Hey now, you're a rock star/Get the show on, get paid/And all that glitters is gold/Only shooting stars break the mold."

Smash Mouth responded to Kim's post with the second half of that last line of the chorus.

However, loads of people weren't happy with the alleged tribute to Harwell.

Some people said it was 'too soon' and 'tone deaf'.

One person wrote: "Posting a thirst trap with the caption being a dude who just died is crazy."

Another added: "Am I the only one who thinks it’s really weird for someone to die and you immediately decide to post a selfie with their lyrics like it’s some commemoration...but it’s just you thirst trapping in your bikini? Idk. This is weird to me."

A third said: "Read the f**king room Kim."

A fourth quipped: "The DAY after the Smash Mouth singer dies oh she’s sick."

However, the band has jumped in to defend the businesswoman.

One person wrote under Smash Mouth's post: "People saying 'too soon' really didn't knew Steve and it shows lol."

They added 'exactly'.

In 2021, Harwell retired from his music career after struggling with a number of health issues.

The singer was diagnosed with the heart ailment cardiomyopathy in 2013, before being diagnosed with a neurological condition called acute Wernicke encephalopathy, which affected his memory and speech.
