Pedro Pascal gives surprising stance on Jimmy Kimmel suspension amid ties to Disney

The Mandalorian himself Pedro Pascal has spoken out on the suspension of talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was indefinitely pulled from its broadcast slot by ABC this month in light of the eponymous star's monologue addressing Charlie Kirk's death.

The 57-year-old told his audience in an opening piece to camera: "We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it."

ABC is a network owned by The Walt Disney Company, which not only makes Pascal's Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian but also bought Marvel Studios several years ago.

Pascal joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer as The Fantastic Four: First Steps superhero Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, meaning his active ties to Disney are twofold.

Alongside a picture of the pair, Pescal wrote: "Standing with you @jimmykimmellive Defend #FreeSpeech Defend #DEMOCRACY."

Pascal's words didn't land with everybody, though, as many Instagram users mentioned his silence when it came to the cancellation of his co-star, Gina Carano, in 2021.

"Can you show where you defended Gina Carano with her free speech that got her cancelled?? Or is it only because you approve of 'this' free speech and not ALL free speech?" read one response.

"Pedro Pascal defending Jimmy Kimmel but not Gina Carano makes no sense. Double standards," echoed another person.

The Mandalorian star Carano was ousted by Disney following a series of tweets she published four years ago, where she mocked the use of face masks and promoted false claims of voter fraud in the aftermath of the 2020 US presidential election.

Following Jimmy Kimmel Live's axe, President Donald Trump was quick to celebrate via his Truth Social profile.

"Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED," he wrote.

"Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy [Fallon] and Seth [Meyers], two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!!"

Fallon himself was another defendant of Kimmel, telling his own viewers on The Tonight Show: "To be honest with you all, I don’t know what’s going on — no one does. But I do know Jimmy Kimmel, and he is a decent, funny and loving guy. And I hope he comes back."
