A body language expert has shared his thoughts on Orlando Bloom's reaction to seeing Katy Perry perform at MTV's Video Music Awards.

Perry took to the stage to sing some of her hit tracks at the awards ceremony in New York yesterday (September 11), amid appearances from winners including Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter.

She debuted a new track and pulled from her back catalogue, but it was shots capturing Bloom's reaction to his partner that got a lot of people talking afterwards.

Bloom actually had the pleasure of introducing Perry to the stage, saying: “We fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson.

"You know her as a global superstar who brings love light and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and every music video she creates. I know her as a mother, as a partner, who brings that same love and joy to our family.”

After returning to his seat, Bloom joined fans in watching Perry perform - though some of his reactions left fans wondering whether he actually had any idea what was going on.

Responding to one clip of the actor, one Twitter user wrote: "Every cut to Orlando Bloom makes it seem like this is the first time he’s heard a Katy Perry song."

Another added: "Orlando Bloom is reacting to this performance as if he’s never heard a single Katy Perry song before what is going on #VMAs."

One particular clip showed Bloom reacting when his wife nearly kissed guest rapper Doechii on the stage, while she performed her new track 'I’m His, He’s Mine'.

He looked momentarily even more stunned than he had previously, then burst into a grin as he began to clap and look around at the rest of the crowd.

Breaking down this response, body language expert Adam Lyons, who commented on behalf of BetUS, told UNILAD Bloom had 'that typical look a guy would have if they saw their woman with another woman'.

"He’s looking around, half wondering if he can believe his eyes," Lyons claimed.

"He’s a kid in a toy shop and he’s just been told he can have his favorite toy."

Blooms reaction sparked amusement from viewers, with one person commenting: "He didn't know what to do...."

Perry paid tribute to Bloom as well as their daughter, Daisy, when she accepted the MTV Video Vanguard Award at ceremony.

She also took the opportunity to praise the 'amazing young artists who are operating with confidence, agency, vulnerability, and authenticity'.

“I’ve heard a lot of do this, don’t say that, wear less, wear more now, hey. Don’t cut your hair. One of the biggest reasons I’m standing here right now is because I learned how to block out all of the noise, that every single artist in this industry has to constantly fight against, especially women," she said.

"I just want to say with my whole heart, do whatever it takes to stay true to yourself and true to your art."
