Meghan Trainor has opened up about her family's decision to welcome their latest addition via surrogacy and shared an insight into the 'beautiful' process.

On January 21, the 'All About That Bass' singer took to Instagram to reveal her and husband Daryl Sabara had welcomed a baby girl into the world days earlier.

Named Mikey Moon, their daughter is the couple's third child, following four-year-old Riley and two-year-old Barry.

Mikey Moon was delivered via surrogate and Trainor praised the 'incredible superwoman' who was so integral in her journey into their family, alongside thanking 'all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible'.

Alas, despite the heartwarming and open post and celebration of a new life on earth, the keyboard warriors came.

One X user wrote: "These skin-to-skin pictures are so performative and fake. If you didn’t birth a baby, it’s not your baby. I’m sorry, but you can’t convince me otherwise."

Although, another social media user defended: "What a gross thing to say. Babies benefit from skin to skin regardless of who birthed them. Focus less on being so hateful towards others."

And Trainor has since opened up further about why the family chose to have another baby via surrogate, explaining it wasn't the couple's 'first choice'.

In an interview with People, the 32-year-old singer opened up about the 'endless conversations with doctors'.

Trainor revealed the discussions ultimately resolved that having a baby via surrogate was 'the safest way' for them to 'continue growing' their family.

"We are forever grateful for that option," she added.

Trainor hopes speaking out will raise important awareness, adding she hopes people can look at surrogacy as 'another beautiful way to build a family' rather than 'something to whisper about or judge'.

She then opened up about the process more and her relationship to the woman who carried their daughter.

Trainor praised the surrogate as 'one of the most selfless, strong and loving people' she's 'ever met'.

She continued: "We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I’ll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter.

"She gave us the greatest gift of our lives. She graciously answered our many check-in texts to make sure she was doing okay."

Trainor reflected on the process and relationship as being 'rooted in trust, science, love and teamwork'.

The singer reflected: "Every family's journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid."
