Lorde reveals she's suffering from mystery illness as she gives candid health update

Lorde has told fans that her 'gut isn't working properly' in a lengthy statement shared about her health

Lorde has issued fans an update in an extremely raw newsletter that addresses health and heartbreak.

The singer has been largely MIA over the past couple of years, with her Instagram page only have two posts on it - one from last month and one from 2021.

But now Lorde - real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor - has shared a candid note to fans in a newsletter where she discussed her current state of mind.

In the letter, Lorde discussed everything from what she's been up to, to having issues with her gut.

She began the message: "Hey, I just finished writing you a long letter, catching you up on how I've been.

"It ended neatly, tied with a little bow. I chose my words well, but I didn't tell the truth. So I'm starting again, gonna type and not look back, and send what comes back."

The 'Royals' hitmaker then proceeded to tell everyone that she's currently residing in London and has been since May, but she'll 'soon' be going back to New York before returning to her home country of New Zealand.

Discussing London, she said: "Things feel clear here. I haven’t seen many friends; mostly, I’m alone with my thoughts.

"I go swimming, I go to work, I walk home or take the train, I eat in my kitchen, I go to bed thinking about what I'm making."

Being over 11,000 miles away from her home, Lorde added that she's beginning to miss her family and friends.

Elsewhere, the 26-year-old said she's 'living with heartbreak again'.

"It's different but the same," she said of the difficult emotion. "I ache all the time, I forget why then remember.

"I'm not trying to hide from the pain, I understand now that pain isn't something to hide from, that there's actually great beauty in moving with it.

"But something I'm sick of being with myself."

Lorde continued to share that she eats chocolate 'to try and manipulate the endorphins' in a bid to remind her of Easter morning.

The songstress went on in the post: "I sit in the time machine and wait for it to move, but it hasn't been invented yet."

It remains unclear who the heartbreak Lorde referred to is about.

Romantically, she was last linked to 42-year-old music executive Justin Warren, whom she's thought to have been dating since 2016, according to ELLE.

Fans then questioned if she got engaged to Warren after being spotted wearing a diamond ring on her ring finger at Variety's Power of Women event in 2021.

The pair have never confirmed their relationship however, with Warren shutting down rumours of their love life back in 2016, labelling them as 'ridiculous'.

Further on in the newsletter, Lorde told fans that her 'gut isn't working'.

"My body is really inflamed," she penned. "It’s trying to tell me something and I’m trying to support it but nothing seems to help and I get frustrated.

"My gut isn’t working properly, my skin is worse than ever, I’ve gotten sick half a dozen times."

The nature of Lorde's illness remains unclear.

Despite the undeniably downbeat tone of letter, Lorde ended on a lighter, more optimistic note.

She wrote: “I know I’m gonna look back on this year with fondness and a bit of awe, knowing it was the year that locked everything into place, the year that transitioned me from my childhood working decade to the one that comes next - one that even through all this, I’m so excited for. It’s just hard when you’re in it."
