Kelly Clarkson defends saying she wants the NFL to focus more on football than Taylor Swift

The singer says football should be about football.

Kelly Clarkson has defended herself after saying she wants the NFL to focus on football.

Ever since Taylor Swift started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, there has been a lot of chatter about the two.

The pop star has attended a few of the most recent Chiefs games and it's safe to say that all hell breaks loose on social media.

Commentators go wild, the fans online go wild and people in the stadium go wild.

However, there is an emerging movement of NFL supporters who want everyone to get back to the reason they're all there.

Clarkson said on her show: “It’s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now.

“It’s like you’re watching Housewives while you’re watching.”

“They’re just talking about gossip things and you’re like, ‘So, what about the play?’”

Many thought she was attacking the blossoming romance between Swift and Kelce.

However, she's now issued a statement after probably copping a lot of heat from Swifties around the world.

She posted a message on Instagram where she said she is very pro-love and pro-football, just in separate arenas.

“Just a quick public service announcement everybody since this seems to be breaking news,” she said.

“Do not fall prey to clickbait, trash reporters twisting the facts again.

"I did not bash anyone’s romance. I am pro romance. Yay romance.”

“Did y’all even watch what I actually said on my show? I just said I want to watch football when I tune in to watch football. Seems an appropriate request. Okay, carry on, and GO COWBOYS!”

But Clarkson isn't the only person who thinks the coverage of Swift has been a little intense.

Travis Kelce even urged broadcasters to stop panning to her every single time something happens on the field.

Speaking on his New Heights podcast, the 34-year-old said: "I think it's fun when they show who all is at the game.

"I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you're watching.”

His brother Jason replied: "They're overdoing it.

And Travis added: "They're overdoing it a little bit for sure. Especially my situation.

"[But] I think they’re just trying to have fun with it."

The NFL hit back at the assertion and said: “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport."
