Gigi Hadid released from jail after being arrested for 'drug possession' in Cayman Island

Gigi Hadid has been holidaying in Grand Cayman, but was found with a 'small amount' of marijuana upon arrival

Gigi Hadid has been released from jail after being arrested last week in the Cayman Islands for marijuana possession, it has been reported.

Hadid was holidaying in the exclusive islands, but a search of her baggage after she and a friend had arrived on a private plane found ‘ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja’ in their luggage, according to local news outlet Cayman Marl Road.

So, Hadid and her friend were arrested on ‘suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja’.

According to the same outlet, they were taken to the Prisoner Detention Center, where they were released on bail.

Hadid pleaded guilty to drugs possession during a court appearance on July 12 and was fined $1,000.

She is not facing any further charges.

Hadid’s friend did the same, and neither are facing other charges, having both left the country without a criminal record.

The celebrity was carrying the medical marijuana purchased in New York with a legal license, her team has since claimed.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Hadid’s representative said: “Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license,

“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

The supermodel arrived into the Owen Roberts International Airport in George Town, Grand Cayman, on July 10.

The 28-year-old was brought through customs for a search before border control agents found a ‘small amount of weed and smoking utensils’, TMZ reported.

It was later determined that the small amount was for personal use only.

Hadid appears to have got on with her vacation after the incident at the very start, with her posting a load of pictures on Instagram having fun in the sea and at the beach.

The model has a two-year-old daughter called Khai with former One Direction star Zayn Malik, with whom she ended her relationship in October 2021.

Malik is now dating Selena Gomez, sparking rumours of a rift between Gomez and Hadid, who are friends because of their mutual acquaintance with Taylor Swift.

Despite that, there have been reports suggesting that Hadid has ‘no problem’ with Malik and Gomez being together, so long as her co-parent remains ‘happy and stable’, a source told Cosmopolitan.
