Fans praise Charlize Theron response as she hits back against plastic surgery rumours

Fans praise Charlize Theron response as she hits back against plastic surgery rumours

The actor says her looks have changed over the years as she's aged

Hollywood star Charlize Theron has been praised for her response to rumors that she’s undergone cosmetic surgery in a bid to turn back the clock.

The Oscar-winning star said her face is ‘changing' and 'aging’, but insisted that it had absolutely nothing to do with having a facelift.

During an interview with Allure, the 48-year-old Mad Max star said: “My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and aging.

"But people think I had a facelift. They’re like, ‘What did she do to her face?’

"I’m like, ‘Bitch, I’m just aging! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.’”

Theron also hit out against the ‘double standard’ between men aging and women.

“I’ve always had issues with the fact that men kind of age like fine wines and women like cut flowers,” she says.

“I despise that concept and I want to fight against it, but I also think women want to age in a way that feels right to them.

"I think we need to be a little bit more empathetic to how we all go through our journey. My journey of having to see my face on a billboard is quite funny now.”

Fans of the star went wild for her honest and open comments, with one person taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - to say: “The response was great!”

Another wrote: “Everyone ages differently. Each individual woman chooses whether to have cosmetic procedures or not. I like her viewpoints on aging.”

Someone else commented: “Does she even realize she is an absolute icon in all stages of her life?”

The star gained weight to play serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster.

However, Theron did touch on one area of her life in which she admits that aging has its downside.

“I will never, ever do a movie again and say, ‘Yeah, I’ll gain 40 pounds,’” she said.

“I will never do it again because you can’t take it off.

“When I was 27, I did Monster. I lost 30 pounds, like, overnight. I missed three meals and I was back to my normal weight.

"Then I did it at 43 for Tully, and I remember a year into trying to lose the weight, I called my doctor and I said, ‘I think I’m dying because I cannot lose this weight.’

"And he was like, ‘You’re over 40. Calm down. Your metabolism is not what it was.’

"Nobody wants to hear that.”
