Call of Duty fans are flocking to social media with a divided response over news of Snoop Dogg returning to the game.

Call of Duty is dropping it like it's hot today with 'The Return of the Shizzle' coming to season five of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone.

The new season of the game already launched on 2 August, 2023 but today (7 August) will see the return of Snoop to the warzone. Take a peek of Snoop in action here:

Snoop first appeared in season two of the game as part of 'The Snoop Dogg Operator Bundle' for Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone in 2022.

Activision - the gaming publisher behind Call of Duty - announced at the time: "Nearly two decades after breaking out with The Chronic, Snoop Dogg is still on top of the game.

"He became the owner of Death Row Records. He delivered an iconic halftime performance right outside his hometown of Long Beach. He joined an esports organization, has multiple business ventures, and even helped break a world record for largest cocktail, which, of course, involved plenty of 'Gin and Juice.'

"This week, Snoop will add one more milestone to his career: Becoming a Call of Duty® Operator. And it’s no coincidence that he’s joining the fight right before a certain unofficial April holiday."

So, what's sparked Snoop's return?

Well, alongside season five of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone having four new maps at launch, several new modes and 'New Free Features in BR and DMZ,' the game is also taking the opportunity to celebrate '50 years of Hip Hop' with some special guests including Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage and of course, the man himself, Snoop Dogg.

It adds: "Get ready to light it up and get some free War Tracks spanning three decades of a culture that transcends music and gaming."

Snoop's announcement reads: "Please take a step back for the owner of Death Row Records. Call of Duty and the D-O-DOUBLE G have been in the same rotation since 2014 when, in celebration of a certain yearly occasion, the Doggfather blessed the community with the dulcet tones that only Snoop can provide.

"Now for Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone, Snoop Dogg returns once more. He is ready for any operation, whether it’s going under Deep Cover or going in guns blazin’. . . .

"Don’t make any bad decisions; the Snoop Dogg Operator Bundle will be here as part of Call of Duty’s celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop. More information is to come in the Battle Pass, Bundles and BlackCell blog, which will post prior to launch.

"Remember: At the end of the day, it’s a Doggy Dogg World, and we’re living in it."

Unfortunately, not all Call of Duty fans have been left convinced.

One fan took to Call of Duty: Warzone News' announcement about Snoop Dogg's return on Twitter to respond: "Cringe."

"Why? How about something new?" Another said.

A third commented: "More s**t."

And a fourth added: "Embarassing nonsense."

However, others are delighted by news of the rapper's return.

One user said: "Snoop with the bling! Can we play this character?" while a second wrote: "Snoop Dogg is the king of side missions."

And a final resolved: "Hey boss. I need the day off tomorrow. Because Call of Duty."

Season 05 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone launched at 9:00am today (Monday, 7 August).

UNILAD has contacted Activision and Snoop Dogg for comment.
