Actor Billy Baldwin in shock at his connection to suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer following arrest

The brother of Alec Baldwin revealed an unexpected connection

The brother of Alec Baldwin, Billy Baldwin, has revealed an unexpected connection from his high school days.

It's not a showbiz connection, however.

The actor revealed on Twitter today (14 July) that a suspect in a murder case was among his high school alumni.

Baldwin wrote: “Woke up this morning to learn that the Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect was my high school classmate Rex Heuermann.”

Heuermann is currently facing three counts of first degree murder and three counts of second degree murder, with the charges being connected to the deaths of three women, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Amber Costello.

In addition, he is suspected of being involved in the disappearance of a fourth woman. Heuerman has been remanded by a judge without bail.

However, an investigation into these allegations is currently ongoing.

“We anticipate an indictment later on this afternoon,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison said to NBC News after Heuermann's arrest on Thursday evening (13 July).

Baldwin was born and raised in Massapequa, and he and his three brothers all graduated from the same high school, Berner High, which is now a middle school.

He wrote: “Berner High School…Massapequa, New York…Class of 1981,” the “Flatliners.”

Other alumni of the school also shared their alleged experiences with Heuermann.

Among them was Maureen Boyle Holpit, who wrote: “He used to leave me little love notes in my locker."

Heuermann's attorney, Michael J. Brown has said that the accusations against his client are 'extremely circumstantial in nature'.

He added: "The only thing he did say, as he was in tears, was 'I didn’t do this,'" Brown said. "He's distraught. He's clearly distraught about the charges here."

Heuerman runs an architecture firm RH Consultants & Associates, which is listed in New York.

According to his website, his clients have included Catholic Charities, New York City's Department of Environmental Protection, and American Airlines, as well as other major tenants at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The Gilgo Beach murders are a string of unsolved deaths which investigators have been looking into for years.

Heuermann has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of three women.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office has said on Friday morning that there has been a 'significant development in the case', however, they declined to comment any further until after a court proceeding.

One woman who had met Heuerman through networking meetings said she was surprised by the turn of events.

She said: "I knew him as a friend and a colleague. And I am completely surprised. He was very organized. He was very friendly. I did not see this coming."
