Fans are divided after 'rude' video of Anne Hathaway goes viral

Anne Hathaway has come under fire after a viral video of her turning down autographs with fans resurfaced, with some slamming her behavior as 'rude'.

Anne Hathaway has always been known as one of the sweethearts of the celeb world, with her interviews showing her, well…..just being a lovely, down-to-earth person.

But a resurfaced video from 2022 has got fans in a debate after it shows her speaking to a crowd in Rome - with people split down the middle as to whether she was setting healthy boundaries or talking down to her fans.

See what you think in the video below:

The 40 second clip shows Hathaway getting out of a car to a swarm of excited fans with her addressing the crowd. She says in the video: “Calm, calm. I cannot take photos with everyone.

"But I will stand here and wave if you would like to take a photo. I cannot sign, there are too many of you, but I want you to have something, so I’ll wave a little bit."

A fan seems to ask something during this, with Hathaway responding: "I can’t, because then I have to with everyone, there are so many. But thank you so much."

The video seems to be polarizing among fans of the 41-year-old Devil Wears Prada actress, with one commenting on the video saying: "This is how I speak to my dogs.”

Another said: “My god, someone telling me to calm down in a patronizing tone and treating me like a sad little commoner…”

While one supporter wrote: “She’s just a queen with boundaries.”

Another fan jumped to her defence, commenting: “Why you hating? So much negativity here. She handled the situation gracefully and kindly.”

Another commented on the interaction with the overwhelming crowd, saying “I loved this, it was very respectful. It bought the crowd down and had them breathe because sometimes they forget.”

This isn’t the first time that Hathaway has received hate during her career, and she referred to a time called ‘Hathahate’ during an Elle interview, where she explained how she got past the ‘off guard’ hate she received after picking up her Oscar for Les Miserables.

She shared: “I do my best to not be afraid of what others might say and just focus on enjoying my life.

“When your self-inflicted pain is suddenly somehow amplified back at you at, say, the full volume of the internet … It’s a thing.

“When what happened, happened, I realised I had no desire to have anything to do with this line of energy.

“On any level. I would no longer create art from this place. I would no longer hold space for it, live in fear of it, nor speak its language for any reason.”

LADbible Group has contacted Anne Hathaway's representatives for a comment.
