Andy Cohen has spoken out about the time he interviewed Britney Spears in 2016 when she was under her conservatorship - an experience which he called 'creepy'.

The pop icon's memoir, The Woman in Me, was finally released on 24 October and is said to be a 'brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope'.

The memoir's official synopsis reads: "In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court.

"The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others.

"The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. "Written with remarkable candour and humour, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last."

In November 2021, fans were delighted to see Spears being released from her 13-year-long conservatorship - and the singer has spoken in the past about her experience.

In 2022, her father, Jamie Spears, defended the decision to place her under a conservatorship, saying it saved her life.

However, Cohen recently opened up about a 'weird' experience he had when he interviewed the 'Toxic' singer in 2016.

On his show Radio Andy, the host revealed that he'd spoken to Spears as part of her ‘Glory’ album release party after her then-manager explained that getting to know Cohen would potentially warm the singer up to appearing his late-night TV show, Watch What Happens Live.

So, the 55-year-old flew from New York City to Los Angeles for their talk, ensuring that it was a private matter without recording or filming.

And, according to Cohen, he'd asked two of his media friends, who were in the middle of filming a documentary about Spears, about to expect from the interview.

He continued to say: “They said, ‘There’s this woman who is at Britney’s side at all times, and she basically tells her what to do and where to go, and it’s really creepy'.”

“It was like Britney was her captive; (the woman) was her captor. … It was really creepy, really creepy,” he added, claiming that he had met the woman - who he refused to name - prior to the interview and that Spears was never out of her sight."

Cohen also said that he remembered watching the handler ‘whispering in her ear before everything. … And (Spears’s) like, ‘Mhm, mhm'."

And during the pair’s sit-down, he claimed that he observed another 'weird' scenario where the team ‘brought Britney in a birthday cake, and they’re like, ‘Happy birthday, Britney! Surprise!’ And Britney goes, ‘It’s not my birthday; my birthday (is next) month'."

This confused Cohen, which led him to believe that it had been done ‘for the cameras'.

UNILAD has contacted Spear's reps for comment.
