Melania Trump Mocked After Her Auction Items Fail To Fetch Desired Price

The former first lady has become the subject of online mockery after her attempt to auction three items failed at the first hurdle.

Melania Trump has become the subject of online mockery after her attempt to auction three items failed at the first hurdle.

The former first lady may have looked 'disgusted' at her husband while on an outing to Game 4 of the Baseball World Series, but the results of her auction likely left her with an even more bitter taste in her mouth.

Much like her Christmas decor while a resident of the White House, Melania's auction items didn't prove very popular, after they didn't even reach their threshold for an opening bid.

The three items up for grabs included a watercolour painting of Melania wearing a custom, wide-brimmed hat, the hat itself, and a non-fungible token (NFT) of the painting with added animation, CNN reports.

However, by the time the auction ended on Wednesday night, January 26, only five bids had been placed in total.

Moreover, the bids only amounted to around 1,800 Solana tokens – the selected cryptocurrency for the event – which was the minimum requirement for a bid.

While enough Solana tickets were purchased to surpass the minimum boundary, the opening bid – which was hoped to begin at a sum of $250,000 – was not reached.

The items resultantly only sold for a grand total of $170,000, despite their grandiose titling as the 'Head of State Collection'.

The $80,000 decrease in expected value demonstrated the impact of a massive crash in the crypto market, which has taken place over the previous two weeks. Currencies, including the Solana, fell by up to a whopping 40%.

The internet has since exploded, with many taking to Twitter to ridicule Melania for her failed auction. One said, 'Over-priced used, sweaty hat sells at discount price.' Another wrote, 'Melania's NFT auction was a big flop. Sad!'

A third commented, 'ME: SHOCKED SHE EVEN GOT MORE THAN FIFTY SHADES OF NOTHING!!'

Melania first got into selling NFTs back in December, however at a much lower price bracket. The former first lady put digital pieces of artwork of her eyes up for sale at $150 each, and similarly to her most recent auction, promised that part of the money made would go towards a charity that supports foster children.
