Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly have come under fire for their choice of Halloween costumes as internet users have accused them of glorifying and romanticising a 'toxic relationship'.

Most people's Instagram feeds will probably be flooded today with pictures of couples showing off their joint costumes in honour of the spookiest night of the year, and that also will includes Fox and Kelly.

Like lots of celebrities, the pair dressed up ready for a party last night (29 October), and decided to take on the personas of another couple who were put back in the spotlight recently thanks to Disney+ - Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.

The pair were played in the series by Lily James and Sebastian Stan, but Kelly and Fox have been slammed for their decision to make costumes out of the real-life couple who tied the knot in 1994 after being in a relationship for just four days.

Things turned sour for Lee and Anderson after an electrician stole and distributed one of their sex tapes, and in 1996, Lee was arrested following an altercation with Anderson.

Internet users have slammed people for dressing up as Pam and Tommy.

He was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading no contest to felony spousal battery.

The pair ultimately divorced in 1998, and as Lee reflected on his arrest in his band’s 2001 memoir, he wrote: “I couldn’t understand why Pamela had followed through with pressing charges.

“She was probably scared and thought I was some crazy, violent monster; she probably thought she was doing the right thing for the kids; and she probably wanted an easy way out of a difficult situation. As much as I loved Pamela, she had a problem dealing with things.”

Anderson and Lee, who have two children together, gave their relationship another try in 2008 but ultimately split for good in 2010.

Fox revealed her transformation into Anderson in a post on Instagram yesterday, which showed her smiling and posing at the camera while Kelly, dressed as Lee, embraced her.

The images mimicked snaps of the real couple, though Fox commented: "But are these even costumes."

Some fans responded to the images to say Fox and Kelly 'nailed' the costumes, but many other internet users have criticised the 'couples costume' idea and argued that a 'toxic relationship' should not be taken lightly.

One Twitter user described the costumes as 'disgusting and deranged', while another commented: "why are loads of couples dressing up as them??? it was an abusive relationship."

Other internet users have more broadly expressed their disapproval over the Pam and Tommy costume, which was also worn by Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson and a friend of her's.

"People dressing up a Pam & Tommy is SO disrespectful to PAM & TOMMY. There’s so many videos, photos, outfits that y’all can use of Pam & Tommy individually but y’all chose them together?!?? Did y’all forgot how toxic that relationship was?!?? Stop romanticizing toxic couples. Ugh," one wrote.

UNILAD has attempted to reach out to a representative for Fox and Kelly for comment.
