Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila Alves allow 15-year-old son Levi to join social media for birthday

The Hollywood star has allowed his 15-year-old to go public on social media as a birthday 'gift'

Matthew McConaughey’s son got the ultimate birthday present for the child of a Hollywood star: social media accounts.

The 53-year-old and his wife Camila Alves, 41, decided their son Levi could join Instagram and TikTok after he turned 15 yesterday, 7 July.

McConaughey and the mum-of-three shared a post, revealing her nerves and a public birthday message for their son – just what every kid wants.

The actor says: “Yes, we are allowing you Levi today, on your 15th birthday, to join the social media universe.”

It’s not been the easiest of decisions it seems, as they say they’ve been discussing this for three years - even though Levi’s friends have had it ‘for a long time’.

But McConaughey says: “He knows who he is, he knows where he’s going, I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share.”

Levi joined Instagram with a rather cinematic first post, very different to the selfies and school yard snaps we might have posted at 15.

Saying he’s ‘happy to be here’, the post features a montage of the teen’s life and favourite things to do, from snowboarding and surfing to walking red carpets and jumping off cliffs.

You know, all the usual casual hobbies of a Hollywood star’s son.

As well as sweet snaps with his family, he also included pictures of him doing volunteer work and working in kitchens. Keeping it real.

And in an iconic tribute to his dad, Levi used audio from McConaughey’s 1993 Dazed & Confused character.

He says: “Let me tell you this. The older you do get, the more rules they’re going to try to get you to follow. You just got to keep livin’ man. L-I-V-I-N.”

Looking very grown up and sharing similarities with his actor dad as he introduces himself, fans even write in the comments: “You sound like your papa,” and, “God you sound like daddy!”

While he is letting his son lead a public life on social media, McConaughey asked followers to go easy on him as he says: “You’re getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi McConaughey, and I hope y’all can do your best to treat him the same way.”

Getting a big ‘thank you’ in the comments from Levi, the actor also adds: “Levi, enjoy the adventure, enjoying telling your story, expressing yourself and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there.”

The eldest of Matthew and Camila’s three children, Levi has already racked up over 80,000 followers on Instagram where his bio reads: “Surf, Snow, Shoot, Style, Sound.”
