Lily Rose Depp rejects claims she’s a nepotism baby after following in her parents' footsteps

Despite working in a business that is all about who you know, she reckons her dad's star power had no influence on her career.

Hollywood is an industry in which it is all about who you know but, despite this, Lily Rose Depp reckons she hasn't benefited from her mum and dad's status on the A-list.

Lily Rose is of course the daughter of Johnny Depp, who you may recognise from Pirates of the Caribbean, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, or his recent courtroom drama with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Her mum is Vanessa Paradis, a French singer, model, and actor who shot to fame at 14 due to her singing career.

In an interview with Elle, Lily Rose has rejected the claims that her acting and modelling career came easier to her than most.

She told the magazine that it is 'interesting' that men are rarely accused of benefiting from nepotism.

"It’s weird to me to reduce somebody to the idea that they’re only there because it’s a generational thing. It just doesn’t make any sense," she said.

"If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor, and then the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, 'Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.' It’s like, 'No, I went to medical school and trained.'"

She added: "I just hear it a lot more about women, and I don’t think that it’s a coincidence."

And, yeah, people on social media did not take too kindly to that comparison.

One Twitter user said: "Mind you, so these Chanel contracts, she got them on her own. It's not like her mother Vanessa Paradis that has been a Chanel ambassador since the 90s [and] didn't introduce her to Karl Lagerfeld when he was alive. Lily totally earned that on her own, sure."

Another added: "Mind y'all, her first movie had her mum and dad [in it] and was produced by her friend's father, who's also in the movie."

A third chipped in with: "Ma'am, don’t compare a medical degree with an acting career. Being a model/actress does not add value to the world."

The same person added: "People are saying that you’re getting certain advantages because of your name in a field that requires connections to get ahead."

Others lashed out at her for saying the nepotism label is only applied to women.

One user said: "THIS is the most heinous part of it all, her attempting to co-opt feminism to subtract the class dynamics she wants to ignore."

Another added: "Not her, trying to pull the 'woman' card."

Well, Lily, that went down like a lead balloon.
