Justin Long, 44, has admitted that his therapist convinced him to propose to Kate Bosworth, 40.

The pair sat down on an episode of Long's Life Is Short podcast titled, 'Kate Bosworth', accompanied with a very fitting heart and twinkle emoji.

They sat down for an 'intimate conversation about their love story', explaining to listeners how they became 'fast friends' while working on set together, and how their friendship 'built on trust and honesty blossomed into something more'.

Long and Bosworth also revealed the intimate details behind the engagement.

The Barbarian actor told fans that he proposed after asking for Bosworth's dad’s blessing.

"It was a moment where it just felt so organic and it felt connected to something very, very deeply, profoundly personal that we were going through," Long began.

He continued: "Like, a real life change, and so it came out in a very organic way."

Bosworth added that they had 'just gone through this really hard thing' and had starting speaking to a therapist to 'move through things'.

"She gave us a really great piece of advice, which was: 'Make sure that you're pretty consistently asking the other what you need, or asking the other what they need,'" the Blue Crush star explained.

Bosworth then recalled how she woke up a few mornings after that therapy session and asked Long: "What do you need?

"And he, like, really looked at me and he said, 'To spend my life with you.' And I smiled and I said, 'Well, yeah, you have that. Oh my gosh, you have that,' and he said, 'No, I mean I really want to spend my life with you.'"

And, from that point on, the rest was history.

Long remembered how 'the words just came out so naturally' with Bosworth agreeing that the intimate moment was 'the most romantic and honest and loving proposal'.

The soon-to-be newlyweds explained that they came up with the idea of revealing the exciting news together on the podcast.

Bosworth said: "We're probably gonna be asked about it and we thought, 'Well, how can we talk about this in a way that makes us feel the best?'

"And we thought, 'Oh, I'd really like to just talk about it with you.'"

The pair has since taken to Instagram with each offering heartfelt messages to their future spouse.

Bosworth wrote: "If life is short, find the one who brings you endless peace and radical wonder.

"Justin Long, I am so grateful it’s you."

Long, who was also promoting the podcast, captioned a series of sweet photos of the two of them with: "I feel eternally grateful that I found a partner who makes each day SO full, whose mere presence IS a reminder of the beauty and brevity of life, and who makes me laugh from the minute we wake up til the one I begrudgingly fall asleep.

"I cherish the days we’ve had and the ones to come."
