A clip of Jim Carrey ‘joking’ with Margot Robbie has resurfaced, and fans are calling out Carrey for being a 'creep'.

Back in February 2020, Carrey, then 58, was invited as a guest on the Graham Norton Show, where he was sat on the couch alongside the Australian actor, then 29.

During a segment, Carrey turned to Robbie and admitted that he hadn’t been to Australia before.

“I’ve never been to Australia. I’ve never been. I know so many people from Australia and I wanted to talk to you because you’re amazing.”

However, the conversation took a turn when he followed up by making a comment about Robbie’s appearance.

“You’re really something, Margot Robbie. It’s incredible that you’ve gotten as far as you have with your obvious physical disadvantages,” he said.

“You’re really something. That’s just pure talent there. That’s a talent override there,” Carrey continued.

Robbie, who at the time was promoting her movie Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, seemed to uncomfortably laugh off the remark.

However, fans across social media weren’t impressed that Carrey appeared to be attributing Robbie’s success to her looks, with many calling him 'creepy' or a 'massive knob'.

And more recently, commenters have been left further divided. Many still found the comments 'a bit disappointing' and called it a 'bad joke'.

One YouTube viewer wrote: "Yeah an old man downgrading women. But yeah, just humorous right? Gladly the future is not those people."

Another user said: "Jimmy is the ultimate unfunny creep," while a third wrote: "He appears to assume she lacks talent because she is beautiful, and that's a bit disappointing from someone as smart as Jim."

And someone said that Carrey should have cancelled for the 'disgusting misogyny"

However, not everyone believed that Carrey’s comments were intended to come off as negative.

“His feeling of sarcasm is just out of this world,” wrote someone else. “I bet a very few people really get what he meant.”

Another said, “He’s a master of his craft. Very few have such an understanding of comedy as he does.”

One simply said: “Jim never fails.”

And many suggested that Robbie could 'take a joke'.

Since this awkward moment took place in 2020, Robbie has gone on to win and be nominated for numerous awards.

These include a 2023 Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globes for her role as Nellie LaRoy in Babylon and a Women’s Image Network nomination for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in 2018’s Mary Queen of Scots.

Elsewhere, she also won a Sant Jordi Award in 2020 for Best Actress in a Foreign Film for her portrayal of the late Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
