Elton John fan catches someone Shazaming one of most famous songs during concert

Fans online are in shock after spotting someone using Shazam at Elton John's concert

Elton John’s hits are known by millions across the globe but even some fans must remind themselves which one is which.

The 76-year-old music legend is currently embarking on the final shows for his farewell tour which is set to come to an end this summer.

Fans have flocked to the concerts for one last chance to see the ‘Rocket Man’ hit-maker sing his songs live for the last time.

One spectator was left in shock, however, not by the grand spectacle on stage at London’s O2 Arena but by a fan who appeared to be using Shazam to figure out the song John was performing.

The Shazam app helps people identify music based on an audio fingerprint using a phone’s microphone. Basically, it’s like doing a Google search using the actual song and without having to type anything into a search bar and is handy when you hear a tune but you don’t know the name of it.

The concertgoer sought help from Shazam.

The app seemingly came to the rescue of one person in the crowd at a recent Farewell Yellow Brick Road show.

Twitter user @caracompass tweeted the video on 19 April and wrote: “Went to see Elton John at the O2 and the person in front of me shazamed Tiny Dancer.”

The 1972 single is one of John’s most acclaimed hits and was ranked No. 47 on the 2021 list of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

‘Tiny Dancer’ was co-written with John’s longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin. In 2022 the song’s chorus was re-recorded by Britney Spears for their duet, ‘Hold Me Closer’.

It seems the fan in the video wasn’t the only person who didn’t recognise the song. One Twitter user replied: “I think people must have season tickets for the O2, the amount of people I saw their who had heard of none of the songs.”

Another social media user wrote: “For the price of those tickets I’d want to know every damn word of every song.”

A third quipped: “The idea of Shazaming a song at a concert is impossibly funny to me even if it wasn't one of the artists most well known songs.”

John will headline Glastonbury Festival this summer on the Sunday night in what is set to be his final ever UK date.

He is currently embarking on the final leg of his tour which is taking place across Europe.

Sir Elton performed nine consecutive shows at London’s O2 Arena this month. The final date of the tour - which began in September 2018 - will take place in Stockholm, Sweden on 8 July, 2023.
