AI creates what an 'average person' looks like from each country and people aren't happy

It's not hard to spot the stereotypes that AI used to create its images

We're probably all familiar with the stereotypes that come associated with our countries, but that hasn't stopped people expressing their outrage over AI-generated versions of the 'average person'.

At the end of the day, not everyone in America wears cowboy hats and belt buckles, and I think it's safe to say that not every French person owns a stripy t-shirt and a beret.

We know this as humans, and our views have only got more realistic thanks to increased travelling, social media and films and TV shows which have helped us get a much better idea of what people are like from different countries.

However, when asked to create the 'most stereotypical person in [country]', AI did not hold back.

The images were shared online by a Reddit user on the r/midjourney subreddit, and just wait until you see the results.

Let's kick things off with France - where, I have to admit, AI did avoid the stripy t-shirt.

That's probably the only stereotype it left out though, as the figure also has a beret and moustache, and just in case you weren't sure where they were from, they're also stood in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Over in Sweden, the 'average person' according to AI has ice-blonde, slicked back, straight hair, flawless, tanned skin, a chiselled jawline and wears round glasses, a bright, blue suit and yellow tie combination.

When it comes to England, AI could have opted for tracksuit bottoms or Beatles-inspired haircuts, but it was actually pretty kind by displaying the average person as a well-dressed man in a flat cap and a three-piece suit - and of course they wouldn't be British if they weren't clutching a saucer and cup of tea!

Things weren't too dissimilar in Italy, only this time the 'average person' was sitting in front of a pizza.

So while there may be some elements to the images that are born from truth, the images have largely been slammed as outdated and 'inaccurate'.

After seeing the images on Reddit, one person wrote: "As a German I find this thoroughly not accurate."

"I was almost offended by seeing the Austrian dude," another commented, adding: "Then I saw the German one and was like, ok this is worse. Then came Norway."

"They're all inaccurate except Ireland," another joked after seeing the images.

It's probably also worth noting that according to AI, the 'average person' is exclusively male. And as a female sitting with a cup of tea in England, I can assure you that's not the case.
