The reason why you can't play quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy

The game's story reveals the reason why

Ever wondered why you can't play quidditch in the new Harry Potter video game?

Being such a huge part of Hogwarts school, it seems slightly odd that players can't get involved with the team spirit in Hogwarts Legacy.

However, the video game has revealed just why the quidditch pitches are off-limits for now.

The latest addition to the Harry Potter franchise dropped on Friday (February 10).

Titled Hogwarts Legacy, Potterheads couldn't wait to get plugged into the long-awaited release.

Set in the whimsical Wizarding World universe, the action role-playing game allows people to explore the world of Hogwarts and 'puts players at the centre of their own adventure'.

Players can grow their magical abilities by mastering 'spells, brewing potions, taming magical beasts' and much more.

However, players have noticed that they cannot play the much-adored game of quidditch at all.

Hogwart's Legacy was released just last week (February 10).

The fictional sport, invented by author J.K. Rowling, is basically like hockey - but with broomsticks.

Matches take place on a huge oval pitch that holds three ring-shaped goals of differing levels.

Already sounds a lot more complicated than your average match of footy.

Two teams, made up of seven players each, enter the pitch and battle it out to score with or defend the goals.

The Seeker, Potter's position, then attempts to locate and capture the Golden Snitch. If captured, the Seeker's team earn 150 points and can boast their victory over the losers.

In Hogwarts Legacy, however, no such sense of team spirit and healthy - or unhealthy - game competition can be had whatsoever.

While the player's character can fly about on their broomstick towards the pitch, the feature is reserved for 'race challenges' only.

Almost preempting the outrage, the game has an in-built explanation as to why avid quidditch fans won't be able to hop aboard their broomsticks for a match.

According to the game's story, students are unable to play because of an 'unfortunate' accident that happened on the pitch.

Game footage shows headmaster Black explaining to students: "Due the unfortunate injury on the pitch in last year's Spring final, this year's quidditch season has been cancelled."

Unfortunate indeed.

The game's story explained the reasoning.

It's not all doom and gloom though as players can still attend a flying class to master a set of broomstick skills.

The official website for Hogwarts Legacy explains: "Quidditch is not playable in Hogwarts Legacy. However, broom flight for traversal and broom race challenges are part of the game.

"Players can also fly brooms to explore new and familiar locations surrounding Hogwarts Castle."

Hogwarts Legacy has since broken records after quickly becoming Steam’s most-played single-player game in just three days after its release.

The video game is expected sell over 10 million copies.
