iPhones have been around for decades, but people are still learning new things about the nifty handheld devices.

One thing that iPhone users have long been befuddled about is the Apple weather app - specifically, it's the rain predictions that can prove confusing, as many are led to believe that the percentage shown on the app is the odds of it raining or not.

It turns out, however, that this isn't the case as one person managed to work out what it actually means and shared their revelation on Reddit.

"I've had to start using my local weather app I've learned something new," they penned. "If the forecaster was 80% certain that rain would develop but only expected to cover 50% of the forecast area, then the forecast would read 'a 40% chance of rain' for any given location."

In simpler terms, the percentage indicates 'the probability that any specific spot in an area will get rain' - the more you know.

But away from the confusing abyss that's the world's weather, there's another new thing that people are only just learning about on their iPhones, and that's an extremely simple way to save battery life.

It turns out that there are a few handy ways to conserve as much of your phone's energy as you can; however, there's one that may have flown under your radar.

It's likely you already do the hack without realizing the benefits it can have on your device; for example, you may do it when deep in conversation with someone to stop yourself getting distracted.

The hack? Turning your phone face down on the table. This also applies when your cell is in your pocket or bag.

By turning your iPhone face down, it stops it from lighting up when you get a notification, thus saving battery.

This all comes down to Apple's 'Facedown Detection', which was first introduced when the tech giant released its iOS 9.

According to a community specialist on an Apple thread, FaceDown Detection can give you up to an hour of extra charge time in comparison to keeping your phone face up all the time.

If you'd like some extra juice, another helpful resource is the low-power mode. According to the expert, this mode also optimizes device performance to extend battery life by up to three additional hours.

You learn something new every day, folks!
