Amazon users are using an Apple gadget to help keep track of their pets, but experts have warned the device could do more harm than good.
No matter how well-trained your Beagle is, or how seldom your kitten leaves your backyard, animals are animals - they do love to explore.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to keep an eye on your pet at all times, which is how they can end up going astray.

But some shoppers have discovered a way to put an end to their fuzzy friends’ wanderings.
Their secret tracking hack? The Apple AirTag, which is currently on sale via Amazon.
What is an Apple AirTag?
Released by the tech titan back in 2021, the Apple AirTag is designed to keep track of personal items, such as keys and wallets, by using a ‘secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the 'Find My' network.
If an AirTag is near by, Precision Finding utilises Ultra Wideband technology to guide you with visual, haptic, and audio cues.
Now, pet owners are turning to the device to keep tabs on their whereabouts. Find out more below.

Apple AirTag users claim pet collar use is 'great'
Many Amazon reviewers have explained how attaching an AirTag to their canine’s collar has helped them to accurately trace their movements.
“Used along with a waterproof holder to keep track of our escape artist dog. Totally clipped his wings,” shared one shopper.
A second recently remarked: "I bought this to go on a collar for my kitten. I’m really impressed, it’s helped me track him down multiple times already!”
Another person said: “I have one on my dog's collar, one in my purse, and one in my car.”

How to safely use an AirTag to track your pet according to an expert
It's important to note that the AirTag is not designed to be used for pets.
Kianne Drance, the company’s VP of iPhone Marketing, has stressed in the past that the AirTag is not engineered to keep tabs on your pets.
In an interview with FastCompany, the expert didn't say using the item in this way was unsafe, but admitted it may be difficult to operate in this manner.
This is because for the AirTag to work, the pet has to come within range of a device on the 'Find My' network.
If they are too far away from your iPhone, your pet may not appear on the system.

Connectivity issues aren’t the only risk with pet tracking via AirTag either, according to Dr Shannon Vawter, medical director and veterinarian at Thrive Pet Healthcare Wedgewood.
She recently informed CNET that putting one of the mini Bluetooth gadgets on your furry companion could have health consequences, as there's risk of it being accidentally swallowed.
