Joe Biden will officially be the first president in US history to turn 80 while in office as he celebrates his birthday tomorrow on 20 November.

Biden got the job back in 2020 and it too was a historic moment, as his Vice President Kamala Harris, 58, became the highest-ranking female official in US history.

However, it is worth noting that Biden became the oldest ever elected president at the time of his Inauguration Day in 2021.

To put Biden's age and political experience into context, as reported by the Washington Post, he won his first Senate race in 1972 - that's half a century ago.

Back then, Vice President Harris and former president Barack Obama were still very much children.

Biden's current age - he turns 80 on 20 November - means that if he decides to run for a second term and is successful in 2024, he will be 86 by the time he leaves the White House for good.

The oldest ever president prior to Biden's election was Ronald Reagan, who was almost 70 when he was sworn into office back in 1981.

However, he served two terms, which made him the oldest ever president when he departed the White House at 78 in 1989.

The second oldest president at the time of their election prior to Biden was his predecessor, Donald Trump, who entered the White House at 70 and left at 74.

As Trump is now running for president again, should he be successful in 2024, he will be 78 when he enters office and 82 when he leaves.

At the time of his first inauguration in 2017, Donald Trump was the oldest president to begin his time in office at 70.

Prior to Biden's election in 2020, Trump previously took aim at the former vice president's age.

"I think that I feel like a young man. I'm so young. I can't believe it. I'm the youngest person - I'm a young, vibrant man," Trump said at the time to reporters.

"I look at Joe, I don't know about him. I don't know. I would never say anyone is too old. I know they are all making me look very young both in terms of age and I think in terms of energy."

Trump, who was later banned from Twitter, then went on to describe Biden as 'Sleepy Joe' on the platform when his formal bid to replace him was announced.

But just this week, Elon Musk launched a poll asking Twitter users if Trump's account on the platform should be reinstated in the name of 'free speech'.
