Police find 4 pound garden gnome made entirely of MDMA in ‘extraordinary’ drug bust

Not exactly what police were expecting to find when they made the bust

A hilariously weird find during a drug bust in the Netherlands has people cracking up.

Drug busts are pretty usual and police are well aware you can find the most bizarre of things during the operation.

But police in southern Netherlands weren’t prepared to find a particularly curious garden gnome during the bust.

According to a BBC report, officers found a garden gnome weighing about 4 pounds made of the drug MDMA.

It was found among a whole host of other narcotics during a drug search.

People on social media couldn’t help but make jokes about the odd discovery and the police have even got in on some of the jokes.

Dongemond Police took to social media to explain the details of the odd find.

In a translated social media post, they wrote: “Drugs appear in many shapes and sizes, but every now and then we come across special things.

“In itself a strange place to keep your garden gnome. That's why we decided to test [it] for narcotics.”

Authorities even joked ‘the gnome himself was visibly startled,’ in reference to the fact the gnome has its hands covering its mouth.

MDMA, also known as ecstasy, is an illegal substance in the Netherlands but despite this, as of 2019, the Netherlands is among the world’s leading producers of the drug.

The exact location of the bust isn’t clear, but the Dongemond police are responsible for the municipalities of Oosterhout, Geertruidenberg, Drimmelen and Altena.

People on Reddit couldn’t help but joke about the whole thing.

One user joked: “Crazy that someone would use MDMA to make their garden gnome. Like if they just sold the MDMA instead of using it for decoration they probably could have bought dozens (or more!) of garden gnomes made out of regular materials. I guess that's still illegal though.”

Another said: “Now that's f****** hilarious. If they had just sent the gnome I feel like they could have gotten away with it.

“Or maybe they were on drugs when they came up with the idea "I know man, I know, we'll put a bunch of drugs in with the drugs as a decoy!"

A third commented: “I imagine this is the sort of hijinks you need to pull to smuggle large amounts of product.”

With another writing: “They should’ve made it a girl gnome and called her Molly.”

And another joked: “What are your garden gnomes made of then?”
