An announcement regarding the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 that went missing in 2014 has been made by local authorities as families continue to search for answers.
On March 8, 2024, the passenger aircraft carrying 239 passengers and crew on board went missing after it took off from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, heading for Beijing, China.
It was just 38 minutes into the flight when air traffic control last heard from flight MH370, as co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid radioed Kuala Lumpur air traffic control saying: "All right, good night."
Just two minutes later, the aircraft's transponder stopped communicating and the commercial plane failed to check into Vietnamese air traffic control.

Malaysian military radar tracked the plane as it went off course over the Strait of Malacca, before leaving radar range some 230 miles northwest of Penang Island in northwest of Peninsular Malaysia.
Several pieces of wreckage believed to be from flight MH370 have been found in the years since the disaster, however, formal investigations led by Australia and Malaysia have failed to provide answers as to what happened.
As a result, many experts have come up with their own theories as to what happened with the Malaysian Airlines flight.

While investigations had been postponed, authorities have now made the huge announcement that the search operation for MH370 will resume this month.
The search, conducted by US-based robotic company Ocean Infinity, will begin on December 30 and will last for a period of 55 days.
A statement from Malaysia's Ministry of Transport states: "The Government of Malaysia wishes to update that the deep-sea search for missing wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will be resuming on 30 December 2025. Ocean Infinity has confirmed with the Government of Malaysia that it will recommence seabed search operations for a total of 55 days, to be conducted intermittently.

"The search will be carried out in targeted area assessed to have the highest probability of locating the aircraft, in accordance with the service agreement entered between the Government of Malaysia and Ocean Infinity on 25 March 2025."
Authorities concluded by stating the Malaysian government is continuing to investigate the tragedy in the hope of 'providing closure' to all those impacted.
The Malaysian government said last year how it was considering resuming the search for MH370 - but only if they are provided with 'credible evidence' of the plane's location.
Minister of Transport Anthony Loke said in November 2024: "Based on the latest information and analysis from experts and researchers, Ocean Infinity’s search proposal is credible and can be considered by the Malaysian government as the flight’s official registrar.

"The terms and costs requested are in the same draft agreement currently being negotiated between the government and Ocean Infinity. Should it be finalised, cabinet approval will be required, and I will make a public announcement."
