Warning: This article contains graphic details of death which some readers may find distressing.

A dad tragically died while on his way to visit his daughter after his throat was slit open by something commonly used in a kids game.

Father-of-three Auriel Missael Henriques was riding on the back of a motorcycle in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with his wife on May 27, when tragedy struck.

The 41-year-old was to his daughter's home, in the Nova Iguaçu region of northern Rio, when he rode into a 'Chilean line' - which lacerated his neck.

The terminology refers to razor sharp kite lines that are used in 'kite fighting', where children - and even some adults - battle it out against each other by trying to cut the opposing competitor's line.

In order to make the lines be sharp enough to cut through string, glass is glued to the thread.

As Henriques drove around the a bend, his neck got tangled in the dangling string and it sliced his throat open.

A passing motorist is understood to have provided him aid at the scene before he was rushed to Nova Iguaçu General Hospital, but tragically died before making it to the facility.

After suffering the critical injury to his neck, he went into cardiorespiratory arrest and died on the journey. Doctors pronounced him dead at 5.53pm.

Henriques, who worked as a motorbike taxi driver and a cook, is survived by his wife and three children, aged 21, 19 and six.

Police are investigating his death and where the line came from.

In the days since his death, another motorcyclist in the city complained that he had also driven into a Chilean line.

Fellow motorcycle taxi driver Luan Motta almost suffered the same fate of Henriques, as he explained that he did not have a kite-cutting antenna instaled on his bike - safety equipment rolled out in Brazil to help prevent kite fighting related motorcycle deaths.

"I'm a delivery boy for a ride-sharing app and I ended up having an accident, but thank God I was able to remove the line in time," he said per Brazilian outlet Gobo.

"Since I was going slowly, I was able to remove the line in time. But it's dangerous. This is a warning to all delivery boys: always have an antenna on your bike, because we can't mess around with these things."
