Woman Mistakes Menu Prices For Calories After 'Rich Friend' Invites Her To Dinner

In a viral video she shared her shock at the fancy restaurant's menu

A woman couldn't believe her eyes when her 'rich friend' invited her out for a birthday meal.

TikTok user Janae went out last week for her pal's big day, but she wasn't prepared for how much it would set her back.

In a video posted from the restaurant, she pans across the prices on the menu, before declaring: "I thought that was how many calories were in the meal."

Check it out here:

The menu starts off with 6oz fillet steaks priced at $43 (£35), with a pan seared king salmon costing $38 (£31) and a pork chop setting you back $37 (£30).

Of course, these meals would hardly be that nutritious if these numbers represented the amount of calories in each dish, but I think we can all understand Janae's point - going out anywhere with friends who are a bit better off than you are can be extremely scary.

What one person considers 'reasonable', another sees as an imminent threat of bankruptcy.

Evidently, a lot of viewers could empathise with Janae's predicament, and the video has been viewed almost four million times.

Janae thought the prices were the calorie counts at first sight.

Commenting on the clip, one person wrote: "I would have backed up from the table LMFAO."

Another said: "Waiter: May I take your order? Me: Oh, I'll just have a small salad, glass of water & 3 lemon slices....I'm on a diet."

A third added: "yall ALWAYS check the menu when you get the invite."

The menu also has an 'accessories' section, which many people said should have been an immediate red flag for Janae.

One person wrote: "Why does it say accessories what happened to appetizers?"

Another added: "Any restaurant that call sides 'accessories' ain't in my tax bracket," while a third joked: "Baby I'm only ordering Accessories."

Like many, she was shocked by the prices.

There were also plenty of people who felt the need to let everyone else know that they thought the food wasn't even that expensive; in essence, showing off that they have more money than the likes of Janae.

She addressed such people in a follow-up video, in which she said: "Baby if I say it is too motherf***ing expensive for me, it's too motherf*****g expensive.

"I don't give two flying f***s if you can afford a $90, $100 steak."

Fair play, Janae.
