Footage of a grown man's bizarre behavior towards a child at the 2025 US Open has gone viral across social media - with critics branding him ‘disgusting’ and a ‘bully’

The final tennis Grand Slam of the season is well underway in Queens, New York City, with Naomi Osaka’s boujee Labubus, Venus Williams’ return and a tense war of words between Jelena Ostapenko and Taylor Townsend making headlines.

The third round of the US Open for both the Women’s and Men’s Singles contests is drawing to a close, with Polish athlete Kamil Majchrzak set to face off against Switzerland’s Leandro Riedi on Court 5 today (August 30).

On Thursday (August 28), Majchrzak pulled off a stunning comeback, defeating Russia's Karen Khachanov in a dramatic five-set battle on Court 11.

Shortly after pulling off what many have called the ‘biggest win of his career’, the 29-year-old headed over to the crowd to greet fans and sign some memorabilia.

In footage shared to X, Majchrzak was seen whipping off his hat and trying to give it to a child.

A man who was standing next to him appeared to snatch the cap instead, and the child could be heard crying out in protest.

Despite the boy being visibly upset, the adult US Open attendee opted to keep the used headgear for himself, sparking outrage on social media.

After watching the clip, one X (formerly known as Twitter) user typed: “That's the biggest douche in America on the right. Stealing a hat meant for a kid at the U.S. Open. It would be a shame if someone recognized him.”

A second viewer slammed the ‘disgusting’ incident, claiming there was nothing worse ‘than a child bully’.

“A grown man collecting autographs is one of the oddest things I’ll never understand. You also have to be a big bag of s**t to do that to a child,” lamented someone else.

A fourth joked: “I suspect this man may feel similar regret to the Coldplay CEO shortly.”

Majchrzak has since said he was unaware that his Asics cap hadn’t reached its intended recipient at the time.

“After the match I didn't record that my cap didn't get to the boy," he wrote on Instagram.

"Thanks to Asics I've got enough caps, so I'm prepared for that. Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match? If it's you (or your parents see this) please send me a DM.”

Internet sleuths quickly went to work, and the former World No.75 has since made contact with the child, as per a social media update.

“I am so impressed by the power of the Internet," wrote Majchrzak. "We got it! All good now.”

The US Open is set to continue through to Sunday, September 7.
