Police in Texas are investigating a traffic incident after discovering an 'uncooperative' teen covered in blood inside a pickup truck.

18-year-old Aaron Richard was found inside the white 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck while responding to a 'major accident'.

Officers had arrived at the scene of Interstate 20 in Fort Worth, Texas early on Monday (24 June) when they spotted the teen.

A statement on Facebook from Tarrant County Sheriff's Office described how deputies had "noticed a large amount of dried blood on the pickup and the suspect."

It added that they had also seen "a large amount of blood along the driver’s side A-frame, as well as the outside of the bed.”

The statement also went into detail about the damage to the vehicle itself.

It said: “There is noticeable damage to the driver’s side door, the tailgate, and front left quarter panel.”

When officers questioned Richard about the source of the blood, they recorded that he was 'uncooperative'.

The statement said: "The driver was uncooperative when asked about the source of the blood."

It continued: "The driver was identified as 18-year-old Aaron Richard. He was driving a 1997 white single cab Chevrolet pickup with Texas license plate DFH2650. There is noticeable damage to the driver’s side door, the tailgate, and front left quarter panel.

"A traffic cone was found in the bed of the pickup. There is a large amount of blood along the driver’s side A-frame, as well as the outside of the bed. The back window of the pickup also has some writing on it."

According to reports from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, authorities suspect that the blood did not belong to Richard and was not a result of the crash.

Officers went on to arrest Richard at the scene under suspicious of driving while intoxicated.

He was booked at the Lon Evans Corrections Center.

The statement from the sheriff's office did not specify whether investigators currently think anyone is in danger. It also did not clarify explicitly whether anyone has been killed.

Officials have also not yet made it clear whether there is any evidence around the circumstances leading up to the crash, as well as if Richard needed any medical attention afterwards.

Police have now issued an appeal for any members of the public with information about the incident to come forward to help shed light on the incident.

UNILAD has reached out to Tarrant County Sheriff's Office for comment.
