Generation Z and millennials are taking to a new travel trend that is saving Americans a ton of money.
Thanks to a rise of content creators documenting their travel adventures on the likes of TikTok and YouTube, new trends within the industry come about on a regular basis.
Earlier this year, some Gen Z and millennials decided to embark on a new career trend known as ‘microretirement’, which involves taking a career break to travel the world.
And thanks to Skyscanner's 2026 Travel Trends Report, we now have a better idea of how people are exploring the world heading into a new year.

The experts over at the travel site collected data from over 20,000 travelers to see how people are exploring the globe, and produced seven trends which look set to define travel in 2026.

'Family Miles - The Family Trend' is one to be taking off, which allows travelers to spend more time with loved ones, while also experiencing the world with new cultures and food.
"Multi-generational travel is on the rise – not just to share costs, but to reclaim time together and create long-lasting memories between parents, kids and grandparents," Skyscanner explained.

The travel site found in their report that 51 per cent of Gen Z adults have traveled with their parents in the past two years, while 22 per cent of millennials have got on a plane with their children and parents in the same time period.

While it is of course great to spend time with family on vacation, SkyScanner found that more than one in four Gen Z adults cite saving money or sharing travel costs as their 'core motivation' for traveling with family.
Speaking to press including UNILAD at an event in London last week, Naomi Hahn, Vice President of Data at Skyscanner, said: "41 per cent of travelers are saying they are prioritizing family this year in terms of their holiday and some of the multi-generational trips. 60 per cent of them are talking about making memories, but the thing that I love is that 20 per cent are doing it to save costs.

"There’s a real trend going on there with saving costs if you travel with bigger groups or family."
As well as taking the opportunity to save a bit of cash, Gen Z and millennials are also citing 'making memories' and the opportunity to 'truly connect' with loved ones as the reason to tag along on the family vacation, according to the report.
