A man in a fast food restaurant has received praise for calling out another customer after they started arguing loudly with their server.

You can watch him step in as the woman berates the server below:

It’s been a tough time for everyone in the hospitality sector over the past few years, with customer levels dwindling and rising with the waves of uncertainty that surrounded the Covid-19 pandemic.

Let alone the risks to their own health posed by working in a customer-facing environment during that time.

In that time, incidents of verbal and physical abuse of workers by customers have been well documented, but this time someone decided to step in and do something, rather than simply filming the abuse.

It’s not for everyone to wade into these situations, but if you can offer some help to someone being abused, you definitely should, provided you aren’t going to get into any big danger yourself.

Anyway, in this recent TikTok video, a man witnessed a woman being rude to a server over some sauce, taking the decision to involve himself and take her to task about her attitude.

After all, servers are just humans trying to earn a living, and don’t need the kind of crap that they often have to put up with.

Matt said he wanted people to show fast food workers some love.

Matt - @therealvideomattpresents on TikTok – shared the video from a Carl’s Jr. restaurant on his platform, filming a woman yelling at the employee.

The woman, brandishing some sauce, said: “Look at that, that is like horrible.

“I don’t know who gave it to me, but you know that right? That’s disgusting.”

We can’t be sure what the problem was, but Matt decided he’d heard enough.

“You know these guys have a hard job. It’s just some sauce, ma’am,” he said.

“You need to show people respect, this is America, show him respect.”

The woman disputed his comments about respect, stating that she worked in the industry herself at one stage, before Matt added: “You guys be nice when you come out here. Stop belittling these people.

“They’re under enough stress.

“The corporation is making all the money and letting these people have to deal with the front lines.

“This is horrible. This is not America, this [is] not how we treat our fellow brother and man.

“We walk over dead bodies on the sidewalk, people spun out and we just act like this is normal.

“This is not normal. Wake up, wake up, wake up.

“This is what we’re breeding. People that just don’t care. They just want to get their food, get their s*** - live, buy, consume, die.”

Viewers have been quick to support his message, with one writing: “Thank you for standing up for those workers, they deserve to be respected and treated with dignity.”

“Good for speaking up! We can’t let that happen & sit quietly anymore,” another said.

A third commented: “It becomes everyone’s business when you make a scene!”
