Facebook users over the globe have been unfollowing celebrities en masse as their feeds were filled with bizarre celebrity posts this morning (24 August).
Social media users have been sharing screenshots of their homepage feeds, which were overrun with random messages on celebrity accounts including Taylor Swift, Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s.
At around 6am this morning, Down Detector - a website where people log outages - started receiving reports of the glitch.
According to reports from Facebook users, if an individual has posted to a celebrity’s page, everyone else following the famous person will see the post in their newsfeed.
The glitch also appears to have removed all regular posts from family and friends from users’ news feeds.

In a statement to various media outlets, Meta said: "We’re aware that some people are having trouble with their Facebook Feed.
"We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience."
UNILAD has contacted Meta for further comment.
Sky News reports that the issue is affecting users across Britain, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Italy, France, the US, Poland, and Australia.

It’s likely that the glitch is down to an algorithm fault. Anyone is able to comment on a celebrity’s Facebook page, but messages are normally filtered by Meta, meaning only posts written by the celebrity themselves will show up on fans’ feeds.
Facebook users were quick to jump over to Twitter and share their thoughts on the global glitch, with one person writing: “Yeah my Facebook has gone dead weird this morning.”
Another added: “Is anyone else’s Facebook weird? I can only see things people are putting on celebrity walls?” while a third echoed: “Is anyone else’s Facebook weird? My entire timeline is people posting on celebs' timelines.”

A Twitter user chimed in: “I enjoy that when one social media app is in complete disarray, I can jump onto a different one and see the chaos affecting other people in real-time. I don’t know what’s up with Facebook currently, but holy s**t is the timeline feed a disaster right now.”
Others thought the incident might be the work of a hacker, although there is currently no evidence of this.
One person tweeted: “Spent this morning unfollowing all celebrities on Facebook because of the hack.”

Another person tweeted: “I don’t have Facebook but reading here on #facebookhacked is delicious - some media outlets calling it a glitch or a bug, but this looks 100% like a hack, amazing.”
“Is this a worldwide hack on #Facebook ?? Same crazy s**t this is,” penned another Twitter user.
