Huge brawl breaks out among parents while children compete in wrestling championship

Some parents just can't control their competitive side

Sometimes, parents can be more competitive than kids when it comes to their children's achievements.

And this was certainly the case at one high school in New Jersey, after a huge brawl erupted between parents at a junior wrestling championship this week.

As the kids looked on in shock, a group of parents could be seen kicking off with each other at the Phillipsburg High School in Warren County.

It's not clear why the fight initially broke out, but it seems to have something to do with one of the wrestling matches that the parents were watching.

During the championship, there appeared to be a number of different matches happening at the same time around the gymnasium, on several different mats.

The fight was caught in the background of a video which was filming one match at the far end of the hall.

In the video, two men could be seen in the background of the film at the back of the gymnasium.

They appeared to be watching a separate match and shouting back and fourth.

But once the kids' match had finished, the huge brawl broke out between the dads, while other parents and staff did their best to prise them apart.

Dragging one another to the floor, the pair almost had their own personal wrestling match as they could be seen writhing around on one of the school mats intended for the kids.

Other parents then rushed in, while some jumped into the fight themselves, pushing and shoving others to try and get involved.

One man in a check shirt can be seen trying to shove his way into the action, while another man in a white t-shirt was pinned to the floor.

Eventually, the fight came to an end and the parents were ushered out of the gym.

The drama was shared by The Wrestling Room on X (formerly Twitter), who claimed that one woman was actually taken away in handcuffs after the ordeal.

Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer told lehighvalleylive.com that the incident was being investigated.

It is reported that at least one child was struck during the fight between the parents.

Meanwhile, the matches were cancelled for the rest of the day.

The video has sparked a wave of criticism online, after people called it 'embarrassing'.

One said: “Great way to show the boys how to be men."

While another added: "Bet those kids are proud of their parents! "What a wonderful example for the kids!"

UNILAD has contacted the Warren County Sheriff's Office for comment.
