Woman discovers she accidentally married her cousin while pregnant with his baby

The TikToker has opened up about what it was like making the discovery while pregnant that her husband is her third cousin

A woman has opened up about finding out she accidentally married her third-cousin while pregnant while pregnant.

Marcella Hill from Utah took to TikTok in shock after making the revelation and her video has since gone viral.

The TikToker took to her platform to reveal something she'd 'never publicly told anyone' before.

She explained when her and her husband were on the search for baby names online, they went on genealogy site FamilySearch for some inspiration.

However, the hunt for cute names for their child soon turned into an unexpected discovery.

Hill revealed: "Husband's next to me on his own FamilySearch and he's like, 'Oh that's funny, we have the same grandma and grandpa's names'."

You can see where this is going...

She continued: "I look at this line and it's all the same as mine. So I think, 'Oh no no, you're still logged into my account'.

"Then we start looking at it and we realise my grandpa is his grandma's first cousin."

After getting on the phone to their respective grandparents, the couple were informed they actually have the same great-great-grandparents.

"Sure enough, sure do. They lived together when they were growing up as children," Marcella said of their great grandparents.

The TikToker resolved: "So I've never publicly told anyone but I accidentally married my cousin."

She joked when the pair have to go to family reunions, they get them both done in one whammy since having found out they're third cousins and it didn't take long for people to flood to the post to weigh in.

Viewers were quite shocked by the revelation as one person commented: "How didn't y'all realise this at the wedding?"

Another joked: "So in a way your baby is it’s own 4th cousin.

"3rd cousins not a huge deal, you’re good. hilarious though," a third said.

While someone else suggested: "I think you should have just not told anyone."

"Say you’re from Utah without saying you’re from Utah," another joked.

In the US, second cousins are legally allowed to marry in every state.

However, marriage between first cousins is legal in only about half of the American states.

According to Utah State Legislation, it is illegal for first cousins to marry unless the couple are both 65 or over with a district court finding that either party cannot have children.

Marcella explained how she came to be married to her cousin in another TikTok video.

"We got married at a courthouse after work on a Wednesday," she said.

She continued: "Let's say we had the wedding, and my grandpa and his grandma were there, and we found out that we were third cousins at the wedding, what were supposed to do?"
