Body language expert reveals what really happened as Emmanuel Macron gets 'rejected' by wife in awkward moment

A body language expert has lifted the lid on the awkward moment Emmanuel Macron was 'rejected' by his wife in a 'frosty' moment.

Just a few weeks ago, the French president's bewildered face made international headlines after it appeared his wife Brigitte had 'pushed' his head, just as the presidential plane doors opened in apparent comedic timing when they touched down in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Body language experts soon weighed in on the matter, revealing what they said appeared to be an 'icy' scene as the pair descended the steps from the jet. At the time, Brigitte appeared to snub her husband by refusing to take his arm.

Now, it appears the 72-year-old wasn't best pleased with Macron when they touched down in the UK on Tuesday (July 8) either.

Although there was no face-shoving this time, according to a body language analyser it was a similarly frosty exchange as the pair descended from the jet to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The expert said Brigitte repeatedly 'rejected and ignored' the 47-year-old president as he offered her a hand off the plane, as per The Daily Mail.

While Macron extended his hand, Brigitte appeared to ignore the gesture once again, instead holding onto the handrail.

Judi James told the news outlet: "Brigitte might be expected to be welded to her husband's arm wearing a look of eternal devotion after that incident of the rough-looking shove with her hand, but instead here she appears to both reject and even ignore him.

"As she crab-steps down the steep stairs of the plane Macron turns in a gesture of caring concern and proffers his right hand gallantly to ensure she maintains her balance.

"But Brigitte manages to work her way down seven more steps, ignoring his hand en route and even when she gets to the ground she appears to turn straight to her hosts, ignoring him once again in the process."

Moments later, the pair were carted off into a vehicle to kick-start their three-day state visit.

However, James said even this looked tense, as Brigitte promptly reached for her phone out of her bag in the car.

"Once in the car the exchange between them looks possibly chilly with Brigitte appearing to pull a phone out of her bag to check the screen while her husband primes himself to wave at the fans," James said.

The insight comes as a lip reader said Macron had appeared 'uncomfortable' when Brigitte pushed his face back in May, and further stated Brigitte had said to her husband (according to a lip reader translating from French): "Stay away, you loser."

The politician shrugged off rumors that the pair were in a spat, saying that it was just harmless 'joking' around.

Macron said at the time the media frenzy around the incident was disproportionate, calling it 'sort of geo-planetary catastrophe'.

"Everyone needs to calm down," he added.

The official also said it was a 'moment' where the pair were 'decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around'.

"It’s a moment of complicity. It was all that was needed to give ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.”
